We have coyotes around here which is unusual. This area is very suburban yet they exist. A few years ago, bald eagles showed up then foxes. Now coyotes. And once every few years, a black bear will pass through the area (which is always trapped and relocated).

I haven't yet photographed a coyote but know people who have. How urban or suburban is the area where you took this photo?

This gator was swimming under the Night Herons, then decided to take a walk. I wasn't near the spot it came out of the water. I rushed over to the spot and saw it walking. It never came out from under the boardwalk.

The area I took this image, in Murrieta, is near the mountain range where a lot of farms are located. This was right next to a goat pen. This coyote ran across the street and down into a dry creek bed. The house on the other side of the bridge over the dry bed owns the goat farm. It is massive and has peacocks and bunnies in their yard. Although, I don't know how they keep those when there are coyotes in the area.
The field that this coyote ran out of, had several others coyotes walking around in it. The town of Murrieta is well developed with lots of subdivisions. This area is a little more rural but not far from suburban life.

We have them here in Lake Elsinore as well. We are close to the Elsinore mountains and have a lot of equestrian folk with large estates and lots of undeveloped property. We also have the poppy preserve in Walker Canyon. "There's coyotes in them there hills." :)

You think birds are difficult? Try small flapping critters, erratically flying about at dusk. I tried to set a focus-trap and just sprayed. Finally got one-kinda. Some motion blur, some focus issues. Went up on the shutter speed, but was losing light quick. SIGH

Actually, I am pretty happy to get this one. You can easily see it is a bat.:)

I was shooting a TriColored Heron when I heard a racket behind me, turned and shot. It was over in a flash.
