This is a very small subject and is several feet away, but check out the detail around the frogs eye. This frog popped it's head up above the water in a pond I was shooting at.

I would not have thought of the Tamron 150-600mm as a sports lens. I'm shooting Soccer in the rain from a long ways away under the safety of the pavilion and I'm loving this lens. So far no lock up.

Congrats on the purchase of the Big Gun! It's a heck of a lens.

Shot this evening with the Tamron and a SB900 flash at about 60ft Baby Green Herons in their nest. Care to guess which direction mom is?

Never considered a sports situation where you need the lens up and ready all the time,at least with wildlife its hanging of my shoulder between shots, you obviously found the D600 would focus fast enough.

Amazingly I did. It was also invaluable as the rain was non-stop and the focal length allowed me to sit a good ways away from the field under cover from the weather and reach clear out to the farthest of fields.
