Possibly a new Nikon 200-500

I cancelled. I've been shooting all day in low light yesterday and in this situation, don't particularly enjoy AF-C at anything smaller than f/4.

I guess I'll stick with the 300 and will do the required leg work.
You might have noticed I came to a similar conclusion. Zoom is not that important, portability of the 300 is essential to me.

The portability of the new 300mm is indeed one of the strong points. The Tamron 150-600mm isn't that heavy but after carrying her around all day I sure missed my 300mm.

Her being shorter is an advantage too since any shake during exposure doesn't translate as badly as in a long lens.

I am still in two minds, this one or the 300mm F4 AF-S. They are practically same price. 300mm gives me one stop advantage and lighter weight, while 200-500 gives me 500mm. Will wait for DXO to test it.

You should just get one of each, and I'll test it for you!;)

Oooh dear... You'll be waiting for the next 10 years...???
They haven't tested the Tamron 150-600 for Nikon yet.
And also not the Sigma's 150-600, the C and S.
At least you have time enough to save some dollars...

Well at least have a notional saving, till I decide. Currently I am just saving money for lenses.

... Currently I am just saving money for lenses.

That was my plan, then my sister needed a car and my dad (I`m over 40 and earning well btw) handed me the same amount, then I found a 600mm in the part of that budget assigned to photography and there I go. Anyway after looking a lot into the 200-500 as replacement for my Sigma 500mm. I decided to get the 300mm f4E for portability and complement it with a 600mm f4 for exercise, hoping to get more out of that combination, knowing the budget is quite different, but then ... hopefully you get what you pay for. Probably keeping the 500mm which is more easy to carry.
