Seltzer bubbles can be really interesting...

Yesterday was carbonation bubbles in seltzer, today is weary looking snow piles. I guess I must continue with my abstract water photos. :) I was out with the photography class today and we were taking texture photos, until one of the kids spotted the very fat, well-fed, fluffy-tailed grey squirrels we have on campus. After a few minutes, the kids went back to photographing texture.

This is what plowed snow looks like after it has been sitting around for a few weeks.

What I found interesting is that this looks like stalactites in a cave.

I took advantage that the sky was absolutely clear and blue this afternoon. That is a rarity around here. We get lots of cloudy days, and clear days usually only occur at night. :)

Today was definitely a day for the books. Besides students being beyond weird and bizarre, it started to drizzle while we, the photography class, was outside. Students are total wimps. I did get a photo of a colorful paperclip, though. :)

Happy first day of spring! Nothing is really growing around here, yet. Give it a week or two, but my pothos is happily springing out leaves. At least something thinks it is spring. :)

When I got out of work, it was a beautiful afternoon in the upper 40s and very sunny. That made for a very conducive afternoon to take some photos.

I saw this ice melting, and all I could think of was winter's last scream. Maybe melting ice is where Edvard Munkchgot his idea (not). :)

At this point, I don't think the remnants of this goldenrod will cause any allergic reactions. :)

I love spring days like this: sunny and windy. It really helps after a long, cold, icky winter (and I like winter).

I caught this chickadee just at he was landing on the tree branch.

You know it is spring when you hear the geese way before you even see them in the sky. This gaggle looked rather unorganized as they flew overhead.

V? What V?

I looked in the tree and something did not look right. There was a brown blob that did not match the color of the tree bark. Upon closer inspection, it was this chipmunk. I think I terrified it with my camera. Instead of going down the tree and running off into the bushes, it decided to go up higher in the tree.

I went to dulcimer practice for the first time in over a year and a half. It was nice to get back into the swing of things. I bought it about 4 years ago for a very good price. I wanted one with cat sound holes, but this one was custom made for someone who decided she did not want to play the dulcimer. The dulcimer maker made me an offer I could not refuse. It has beautiful tone. I do need new strings, though.

The picture on the wall is one of the Apollo missions' lunar landers. My husband painted it in oil on three different layers of glass. The photo does not do it justice, but when you see it in person, it really has a 3-D look to it. I cannot even draw a straight line with a ruler. :)

I love dulcimers. If I built stringed instruments, that is the instrument I would build. Went to Carter's Grove one year and encountered a dulcimer player who gave a performance on the picking porch better than anything that took place on stage.

The dulcimer, as stringed instruments go, is not that hard to learn. But then again, I also play the guitar, so what's another stringed instrument? :)

The group I play with is a rather informal group. On any given week, there can be anywhere from 4 to 10 people showing up. Nice group of people, and definitely not as egocentric and neurotic as those in a pipe band.

Every day, I pass the site of the former MacArthur middle school. It was flooded out after the double onslaught of hurricanes Irene and Lee. Because of the mold & asbestos issues, it took almost a year for the demolition crew to take the school apart before they replace it with another one this year. Over the past week, I have noticed a significant increase in the Canada geese population. Last week, there were only a few. By this afternoon, there were well over 100. Who knows how many will be there by the end of the week. :)

Why is that? also are you aware of the National Dulcimer Festival that is held in California every year. It is said that the best of the best gather for that event.

That would be a great festival to go to. We have a few like that around here. I am hoping I can get to one this year.

When strings get really old, they often seem to stretch, and just not stay tuned. They also start getting dull-sounding, and lose some of the harmonics that give them a richer, fuller sound.
