I just booked a one week trip to South Florida in 3 weeks and I will be checking out the Everglades and The Keys. Anyone from that area or visit that area and have any photography insight?

Haven't been to the Keys in a long time. Which key will you be staying on? Key West has lots of photographic opportunities (A Guide to Key West, Florida –Key West Travel Guide), but be careful on some of the streets with your gear. Key Largo has the African Queen (African Queen (boat) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), Sugarloaf Key has the Bat Tower (Sugarloaf Key Bat Tower - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) and Islamorada has the worng way hurricane sign (Islamorada, FL - Wrong Way Hurricane Monument).

Try to arrange a trip to Shark Valley. Welcome to Shark Valley Tram Tours
Haven't been there, but lots of folks recommend it.

Have fun!!

Get out on the water. Rent a kayak/canoe for the everglades. Take a sunset cruise/or other boating excursion in the keys. Key West is a zoo, but great photo ops everywhere.

http://www.nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/upload/Ever_park-Map-FY10.pdf Some of the best birding locations are near the Flamingo Visitors Center. Just about any visitor center will have something to see and photograph.

Robert Is Here Stop by the Robert Is Here fruit stand for a Key Lime milkshake on your way into or out of the park. It's on the way if you enter or depart from/to Homestead.

http://www.clydebutcher.com/events-exhibits Clyde Butcher is considered "the Ansel Adams of Florida" by some. He has a gallery at Mile Marker 54.5 on the Tamiami Trail. I've not been, but know some who have and they highly recommend it. One of these days, I'll make it.

How are you getting there? Driving down from Ohio? Flying down and renting a car? If you're driving into the Everglades, bring a car cover or tarp with rope and a bungee cord to tie it over the vehicle. They will tear the rubber moulding off of a car.

Where ever you plan to go in the keys, expect it to take longer than you would normally think it would, as traffic volume will likely be very high. It can be worth it, though.

Take long sleeve shirts and be prepared to use insect repellant. There are places that will be free of mosquitoes, and places where the mosquitoes will bleed you dry. Also, have rain gear ready.

BTW, what are you interested in, photography wise, on the trip?

We visited the Everglades a couple years ago, and stopped at the Billie Swamp Safari (I think that was the name). We took an airboat ride around the Everglades, and the guy running it said, "If you fall in, I'll gladly call for help." It was amazing how quickly we were away from any sign of civilization. Just us, the boat, the water, the trees, and the gators.

I don't have my pictures online, but it was very beautiful, and we hit a gorgeous day for it. I'll try to remember to put them online and share a few.
