On the way to work this morning, a bit early so thought I would test out manual mode on the J1 while over the motorway.

No tripod, just resting the camera on the barrier rail on the bridge.

I see wrinkles in the water, which is part you try to avoid with the 10 stop. Probably the 7.1 opening is not ideal and the time of day? Would also have tried f16, which should have brought the shutter speed to 40s, probably smoothing the water. But you need to bulb and count seconds for that.

I was testing the shutter speed and aperture settings,

thank you for your input, I will take the remote shutter release with me next time and put it in bulb mode like you suggested, and try 40+ seconds to get the water smooth.

I also have a 10 stop and regret not playing with it more. Try and see what works for you, for me the water missed smoothness, but that is only me.
