do you have anything for backup?
the D5100 files are smaller
4GB – 422 images (fine) and 171 images (raw)
8GB – 844 images (fine) and 343 images (raw)
16GB – 1,688 images (fine) and 686 images (raw)
32GB – 3,376 images (fine) and 1,372 images (raw)
64GB – 6,752 images (fine) and 2,744 images (raw)
You had better be shooting more than 100 per day.
If those are from the manual, they are very conservative. I can reformat a card and it will say I have 320 left, but I routinely get close to 500 on a card.
I can teach you how to draw and paintOnly one camera. Will get spare battery. Although I will take my Point and Shoot
I really cannot cater for every single contingency.
I could take 4 cameras and they could all fall in the creek. Will take some pen and paper and learn to draw fast if that happens.

I need to get some more memory cards for a forthcoming trip. As per @Scott Murray
I have been using the 32 GB Sandisk Extreme Pro 95 MB/s Class 10 and will likely stay with the same unless I can be convinced otherwise.
These are a bit expensive in New Zealand (you guys in the USA have no idea how lucky you are) but my flat mate will be going over USA way soon and has offered to bring back for me.
Now the question is am I better off (for whatever reason) getting 2 of the above or should I just get 1 x64 GB which costs less than buying 2?
My gut says get 2 to spread the risk of losing data.
I have always wondered why people seem to put all their eggs in one basket at times. Why would you use a 64gb SD card for your D5100? Unless you are shooting video, i see no point i using something so big. 1 card + 1 failure = no photos at all. If you are going to go on a long trip where you may not have access to a laptop/internet every day, i would buy a bunch of smaller cards. Whether you shoot jpeg or raw, calculate how much you can fit on a 4/8 gb card. Buy maybe 3-4 cards. Use a fresh one each day and when you get in front of that computer with internet, dump the photos to the cloud. Therefore, if your card on day 3 gets messed up, guess what? You still have the photos from day 1 and 2. Just a suggestion. A camera with dual slots would be even better.... maybe time for an upgrade![]()

I couldn't agree more about the smaller cards and that is thanks solely to the advice given here.
I do rather like the idea of an upgrade but to be honest the funds just won't allow for it. I am quietly looking at that though and wondering how much I would get for my D5100 which I would have to sell to upgrade to a D7100.
I guess I can dream ...
Lemme know how well it works when you try to upload 800 raw files to the cloud.![]()
Me, I carry a laptop and a 1tb portable drive I dump everything on to every night. I then don't reuse any cards until I get home and copying everything from the portable drive to my primary & secondary drives used for storing images.
