I remember when Nikon offered cameras with either chrome or black trim parts (I'm sure I'm using incorrect terminology, I can't remember how they marketed it.) I insisted on all black because it just looked more "professional" to me. The white Canon lenses look like lab equipment or plumbing parts to me, not photographic equipment.
I'm just kidding around, for those who might think I'm making fun of Canon or anyone's color preference. If Nikon made a 400mm f/5.6 like Canon's, I surely would have bought it a few years ago, even if it was yucky white.
