Nikon D7100 DSLR Announcement

Purely on paper as that's all it is at the moment, for me yes. I like shooting sports and I like the extra reach of crop cameras. So with the high end AF, extra resolution and fps it would be worth $600 easy.

Re: Nikon D7100 is now officially announced!

Will the high ISO actually be better? The last I read, when you pack more "light detecting pixels" onto the same physical size chip (image sensor) each pixel is physically smaller. Resulting in them picking up less light, and requiring the signal to be amplified....resulting in more noise.

Hooray! First post.

D7100:vs:D5100 (click the links to open the tech specs)

I agree that there's more stuff that can be added to make it more 'desirable'
maybe a sport model with better than 6fps. Question .... how many fps do you need...with video and video capture, it starts to blur (pardon pun) into one.
longer battery life? they've got the extra accessory for the battery pack.
full weather protection. Those that get it will no doubt not only praise it but will have a wish list too.
i love the D7100 . I'll see whether there are any 'issues' like the D7000 had, but I doubt Nikon would make the same mistake twice. Definitely not their style.

That was a bit hard to follow... I like the specs, but they aren't enough to make me ? me recent D3200 purchase. I almost grabbed the D7000, but decided to focus more on learning, and glass purchase. If this was available a month ago, I may have purchased it instead, and I am actually glad it wasn't. If it was the same camera in a larger body, I probably would do whatever I could to upgrade now.

The measure of the "more", the "better" and the cost equivalent for what you get that you don't have is hugely subjective.

I bought the D7000 two years ago and know the camera about as well as I can. I've experienced its brilliance and its shortcomings. Kit price at that time was $1498.98 on Amazon with the same lens offered now, so we're essentially talking a $100 bump in retail price. So any value comparisons should be made against that and not the current price of the D7000, which is "old technology". There is no doubt in my mind that you get more than your hundred dollar's worth in added features with just the 7 frame bracketing (not available on the D600), 1.3X crop function with 1 more fps, add'l video capabilities (mic placement is brilliant and should be that way on EVERY camera with video) and sensor size.

Some are improvements I hoped for, others things I either didn't think it needed or may not use, but they are thoughtful. If I rue anything it's that I can't use the battery grip from the D7000 on it. I was seriously thinking about leaving the DX world behind, but this camera makes sense to a group of shooters, like myself, in a lot of ways. It's beyond the needs of some, and falls short for others. I'm just hoping it delivers in actual performance the way it does on paper.

You know your stuff for a 1st post! :) Well done, correct in your thinking BUT, can you please name me one Nikon camera that has had worse ISO than the previous model?? Writing is on the wall. This will be better than the D7000. How much better is yet to be seen.

I will admit to being a little surprised by the reaction of people to this release. I thought we were all waiting for this body. Well DX users anyways. D7000 with D300 AF, close fps and construction. + the bonus of higher reso. C'mon guys, to me this is a game changer. Read D400. I for one will probably end up buying one. I will keep my D7000 for my work which is quite different to my hobby and for my hobby, these specs EXCITE me :)

New sensor = better ISO. Has done on every new Nikon I ever seen. AF with 51 sensors is HUGE!! This is D300 territory. Time will tell.

comparing body specs is not comparing pictures which involves the lens...that is where it may not be an economic buy for me...no gain but wallet pain

YEAH! they increased the Bracket depth! and the fact that the fps is match with 50% more data, not bad. This is a great peice of work, and not enough for me to dump my 7000, but that is because I use a D800 as primary.

but..

if my primary camera was currently a 7000, I would seriously consider selling RIGHT now my 7000, and get the 7100 for essentially a 400 dollar upgrade.

Since I have owned the 7000 for 2 years, that is a reasonale delta. IF the 7000 was my primary camera.

I really really look forward to the actual image tests without the antialias,,

and if good, would bet for sure that a D600 is around the bend, and the days of alias filters
ARE GONE!
