Nikon D500 Announced

Honestly, at the moment I don't see how the D500 helps me hobby photographer to get better photos which I never sell to get the investment back. For Facebook, twitter, etc. the D7000 does a great job. My family likes my photos as they look at them.

People get crazy about the D500 cos they wanted/waited so long the D400 to be announced. Now they glorify the D500 and the price goes up. Nikon did a great job, let ppl wait for such a long of the D400 so they will take the D500 for sure for almost any price they put on.
I'm not getting one until the gray market price is down to 1100 bucks or so. What this camera should provide over the D7xxx is the ability to wake up on a shitty morning and go ahead and shoot because you know they'll mostly be keepers. :encouragement: We might even come to find out this is one of the better low light camera FF or DX. The 10fps and better focusing has its appeal as well. When that Merlin is hot on the ass of a cooper hawk that has pissed it off you'll get 200 trys at the perfect shot without taking your finger off the button.

Just picked up on another forum the automatic focus fine tune only works with Nikon lenses, well sort of expected that but if thats the only fine tune in it they can count me out.

Yes, that would stink if that were the case. Hopefully there is still the option to manually fine tune 3rd party lenses.

They have got a good 400mm lens also, that doesn't break the bank :).

I was very tempted with the 7D MK11,the lens availability and pricing is great,i have a very sad reason for not jumping ship,i couldn't find a forum that offered me the enjoyment this one does.

Canon rumors was laughing at this example of ISO 1640000

I doubt they will have the same reaction when we compare the 25600 ISO pictures of the D500 vs the 7D MkII.

Remember no (photo) ILC delivers a picture when ISO 1640000 is required, except the new Nikons.

The article states:
ISO 1.640.000. In der Praxis zeigt sich dieser Wert allerdings als wenig praktikabel. Die reguläre Maximal-ISO von ISO 51.200 dagegen schon.

ISO 1640000 practically very limited use, the normal maximal 51200 ISO is usable though.

1.6 mil ISO is marketing hooey for Nikon to play up. It will be interesting to see the tests after the camera comes out and starts to compare it to other stuff.

The difference is this may clean the D750s clock in low light performance and let you keep a crop factor camera. The myths surrounding DX and FF may be coming to an end.

I kind of doubt that. The numbers on the D5 show you that the boundaries are just being pushed everywhere, so it's not myth, it's math. I just think we're reaching a point where low light performance, except in amazingly rare cases (i.e. capturing color in a moonless night sky), is no longer a significant differentiator.

As for the price comments, the price was set before anyone "glorified" the D500. $1800-2000 is about where we would expect a pro DX body to come in. A little lower would have been nice, but it's nothing out of line when you look at $1699 for a 7D Mk II.

The cameras at CES are likely the same prototypes I'm reading about in reviews where the reviewer states emphatically, "I was not allowed to keep the photos I took". A shot like that? Who knows how the camera was set, particularly with other settings like Active D-Lighting and High ISO NR. It's easy to show a screen shot and call it crap for the amusement of others. Yes, seven digit ISO is an extreme, and likely only useful under certain circumstances when other ISO's do not apply (my D750 could have taken that shot at 12800 with minimal noise - why would I want to shoot it at 1 million in a practical setting?), but under those circumstances I'm sure it's really nice to have.

My feelings about the D5 and D500 today are the same as my feelings back when the D3 and D300 were announced: I want both these cameras, and they'll suite my needs for many years to come. Although it's no longer my prime body, I still bring my original D300 with me on most shoots.

As I said in the poll thread this as spec'd is my dreamboat for what I do.

I've got enough Sony/Minolta/m42/Canon gear laying around to sell in order to fund this...... Was going to look at the A99 II when it came out....

No more! Time to empty that camera bag and complete the switch to Nikon!!

If you don't care about long reach, enhanced low light performance, 10fps and a massive buffer it's not for you I guess.

sounds good to me!

Boom!

The man taking the picture is a Nikon fan, he just wanted to show that indeed it is not great, but gives something. Canon Rumors just tried to misuse it.

Similarly you can look at 2 Mp footage of the Canon ME20F-SH @ ISO 4,560,000:

Canon does good things, but also their top is over the limit and it is not in a photo camera at consumer price.

I thought I was finshed buying bodies after getting 2 last year. But I might have to get a 500. So, I've put my D600 up for sale and when it sells, I'll put my recently purchased 7200 on the market. And to think this all started because I bought a 200-500 lens. :fatigue:
