I've been looking at Synology. Currently I have a WD MyCloud home and I'm not overly happy with its limitations. With Synology how does the file management work? Does it have its own app and how versatile is it? One of my complaints about my set up is the app that is included is fairly limited and restricted.Synology for the last 5 years, zero issues. Serves as home server for all entertainment as well. Highly recommend!
Mine is an older WD My Book Live Duo which I have configured as a RAID1 so the data is automatically duplicated across the 2 drives. Yeah, I lose half the storage that way but it is my backup strategy.

Using a NAS for catalog storage is not recommended. It will make Lightroom run like it's filled with brake fluid. The catalog should be stored on a local fast drive like an SSD. I have tried, ouch.
I keep the catalog and previews on a local SSD but the images on the Duo. Performance is very good.
