You might want to keep an eye out for a gently used 1 Nikkor 70-300, Mike. I wouldn't have bought mine if I didn't find a deal on it. The hard part is trying to be patient.

My first choice for this lens, wasn't a new lens. I'd previously bid on 2 other pre-owned copies of this lens on eBay, and lost out in the last few seconds of both bids. It certainly does take patience.

I just got my 70-300mm a couple of weeks ago. I haven't done any serious shooting but with the few shots I've used it, it really is a very good sharp lens. I'm really looking forward to our trip to the Toronto zoo next month. It would also be nice not having to lug the 70-200.

It does seem to be suffering from a little lens distortion and horizon tilt though.

No, I welcome constructive input. Thanks! And, you're correct. I'm using the V3 for travel. We spent 5 days at Disney. The heat and the constant walking made the V3 the perfect camera. The D810 would've been a hassle.
