When you first powered up the camera, did it prompt you for the time zone, etc., or were those things already set? It might have been used as a demo model in the store.

Last question should be how much you paid for it. If it was discounted from nikons suggested retail pricing then it was a demo. If you don't have a problem with that, usually they carry the same warranty, then remove the screen saver and put one on that's glass or keep it bare and go out and enjoy the camera. If you paid full retail take it back and request one in an unopened box

I didn't think the D7100 came with a screen protector???

It doesn't come with one.

Like many others, I bought the optical glass and applied myself.

Based on the info you have shared, just my opinion but my course of action would be to return to the store and be very honest about your concerns. If you want to keep the camera, look at the packaging as a whole, the camera condition, etc., and if the store owners levels with you, assuming it's not some kind of refurbished unit with the shutter count reset, I would be inclined to discuss a discount on the item with a partial refund.

Otherwise, if the owners say no deal then hand it back to them, get a refund and take your business elsewhere.

Re: My new D7100?????????

This ia actually a pretty simple and easily solved problem.
Did you purchase a NEW camera? If so, you didn't get it.
Demo is just another way of saying it is USED without being
purchased. It sure as hell ain't new.
If they don't have a new one to replace the used one with, a refund is in order.
Then you can give Adorama or B&H a call.

Returned the camera today, the owner got a new camera out to show me that the D7100 came with a screen protector only to find out that it didn't we exchange cameras and he told me he was sorry for the mistake. He question his workers, who put the screen protector on this camera. It's all good now I got a new D7100:D

I'm still wondering if it was actually a new camera and the salesperson put the screen protector on for you as a nice gesture.
Anyway, good that you now know yours is new. Enjoy.

Moral of this story, when it's possible, buy local from real people, not website. It's much easier to get service afterwards. Plus, you encourage your local business.

I just bought two D7100 and both have a thin plastic skin over the LCD so if this is missing its been out the box.
the LCD glass is bonded to the LCD electronics so if the glass gets cracked the LCD is toast ..you cannot just replace the glass ..fit a toughened protector ...they are cheap enough.

So I've had a similar sort of situation so thought I'd jump into this thread instead of starting another similar one. Hope that's ok.

Finally purchased a D7100 body today new, from a very reputable and long established family run business in the city nearest to me.

Anyway got got home and everything looks fine. All components seem to neatly packed and in plastic where you would expect it. The user manual isn't in a bag, like I have seen on some YouTube videos, it just sitting loose. Anyway this maybe the nom for Europe. I know the US one comes in plastic but it has a Spanish and English version whereas the European only has English, so maybe it's normal to be packed like this.

What at caught my attention finally were there were a couple of items missing that I'm pretty sure should be there.
Pi didn't notice at first, but went looking for the warranty card so I could claim online for the cash back offer, and noticed there wasn't one in the box!

Also the cd software that should come in the box also wasn't there. Now I don't use the software but the point is it should be there.

I can't get in contact with them direct now until Monday which is a real pain. No camera to use as I have it all packed away again and sold my other camera yesterday. It was also a 25 mile drive each way and I went in specifically to get the camera. I'll be in work Monday so don't know what I'll do.

Surely these two items should be in the box? I don't really care about the cd but the warranty card?

So disappointed. Was looking forward to today for a long time.

adox66 Give them a ring first, see what they say, probably tell you to come in anyway and swap it out is what will happen. I guess in this case, it would be prudent to check the contents before leaving the area of the store. I just bought a 18-300 nikon lens this morning, when I went out the car, I checked to make sure all the bits were in the box.
