The two juvie Red Shouldered Hawks were out and about yesterday. This one was flying from tree to tree. The other stayed in the nest for a while, then flew deep in the trees.

Looks like it was trying to distract me away from a nest.

Back when I was in HS a friend and I would cut through a wooded area. One spring day a Killdeer ran across the path and went in to its fake hurt mode. Knowing it was trying to distract us we tried to find the nest in the other direction. This continued for some time, after weeks of the ritual we gave up.

This was the second time I've seen this in about five years. Didn't look for the nest. There wasn't any shade for Chris to get out of the sun, so I took the shots and we left.
