About 12-13 feet long. I was on the other side of a wooden fence @Peter7100, but I think he would have been able to take it down if he wanted to.

:eek::eek::eek:

I heard in the news recently a man had his arm bitten off by one and his wife went for help and when she returned he was gone :(. Can't remember which town it was but I'm sure it was somewhere in the south of the US, so take care and order that longer telephoto ;)

There were a bunch of other people there also. I could have outrun at least one!

The attack was in New Orleans LA, flooding from Hurricane Ida. The man was in his back yard getting tools from his shed.

I'm not saying not to be careful, but...

According to a comparison of animal-related fatalities from CDC WONDER database, venomous injuries, largely from contact with hornets, wasps, and bees accounted for an average of over 56 fatalities per year, compared to an average of about 1 fatality per yearfrom alligator attacks in the United States

I'm allergic to bees, so I watch out for them more than gators.

Neither is much of a factor when compared to fatalities caused by other humans. Nevertheless, it pays to be careful!
