We were heading to Wako when we spotted this Anhinga walking along the road. He wasn't near any water so we stopped. He was pretty close to the maintenance worker and his vehicle. Thought the Anhinga had a butterfly in his mouth. What can I say, my eyes ain't what they used to be.

Closer inspection looked like some sort of fuzz ball.

We tried to remove it with a stick and that didn't work. Chris went home and got a pair of gloves. That didn't work either, so we called SPCA Wildlife. They asked us to try to contain the Anhinga. I went home and got a box.

They told us we didn't have to wait, but Chris didn't want to leave the Anhinga alone, so I waited.

Kelsey arrived and removed the fuzz ball with scissors. She told us Anhinga's have a serrated beak and that was the reason we couldn't remove it just by pulling.

We watched him swim and drink for about five minutes. As soon as I packed up the camera, he caught a fish and flipped it in his mouth. We checked on him later in the evening and he was sound asleep on a sand bag in the lake. Looks like he's gonna make it.
