Are many of these pianos broken in some way or are you just doing maintenance and tune ups for the most part? How in the heck does one become a piano repairman? It's sort of interesting really...

95% of my work is tuning while sometimes I'll have to repair or restore an instrument. As far as how to learn the trade, I'm a third generation piano technician. I followed my father who had learned from his. I also went to different piano manufactures for training, Steinway, Baldwin, and Yamaha in Japan twice. I'm also a technical consultant for Yamaha Canada and do travel across the country once in a while with a team of Yamaha Canada technicians. In april this year, I'll start my 36th year in this fascinating domain.

There were fireworks in progress down the gorge. These people were standing on the bridge. ;)

I was pretty sure some of you would be intrigued. The picture draws the eyes and is a little mysterious.

Day 67, March 7th:

HDR with a twist. I converted my raw files to Tiff and corrected each one for contrast and color and then loaded them in Photomatix to process in HDR. It's a view I had while working at the local University this morning. Enjoy.
