Little help from the community

Long story short, my good friend's mom was given about a week to live. He sent me a picture to try to edit for him, since I use photoshop/lightroom a lot. However, when I normally edit pictues, they're portraits, and out of my D600 from a RAW file, so I have a lot to work with. He took this on his phone, and it's not the greatest. I don't have any experience on re-touching photos with noise, and not the best quality. If anyone out here has experience with editing not the greatest quality photos that would be amazing. Thanks in advance guys/gals.

You guys are awesome! I'm sure he will very much appreciate your help! He just got a Nikon for Christmas.. I've been bugging him to join here, but he's been a little busy. :(

I had a bit of a play with it using some of the NIK tools, also cropped it.

That's a massive endorsement of NIK.

Good luck to your friend, Mfrankfort. I'm in a not dissimilar position: my MiL was given two months to live seven months ago. We're just waiting for the axe to fall any day now. It's like being stuck in a departure lounge with every flight cancelled. Get him on here asap to give him a much-needed distraction - think of all those photos/memories he can take and edit!

It's not fun. She went into hospice a few weeks ago, and her kidneys are starting to fail as of last night, so they didn't give her much time. :-( I've been trying to get him on here. He saw some of the pictures I took and fell in love with photography. No matter how bad of a day I'm having, I can just grab my camera and go to the park/zoo, and I'm always at peace shooting. It's good for the soul. Plus I always have you guys/gals here. Like a second family. :)

No crops, and I couldn't get the backlight to do anything but look absolutely faked, but I was able to clean up some of the white balance and other issues in Photoshop and using Nik Viveza and Color Efex Pro. After that just some dodging burning and playing with color balances.

A couple from me, not 100% happy as am remote working my home computer and its slow plus work screen quality is shocking.
