Re: Landscape panographs

After long consideration, and discussing the 3 versions with experts worldwide, I have decided that this is my favorite Garbage Mountain Panorama.

It is very crisp and has good natural coloring.

Re: Landscape panographs

With today's panorama study, I have discovered (at least in my case) I get far less distortion by shooting hand-held vs a tripod. The tripod tends to curve the photos from side to side if you only turn the camera on the tripod. A hand-held shot permitted me to keep a straighter horizon. If a tripod is necessary due to long-timed shots, the tripod needs to be readjusted for each shot.

I'm not trying to be redundant with the subject matter, but the photo below was shot hand-held. I didn't have to do any of the post-distortion-correction that was required with the previous versions.

All of those above (even the one I had picked as 'best") were taken with a tripod.

I hope this can help someone else who thought, like I did, that the tripod was the best way to go.

I used to spend so much time at the Boynton Inlet when I was younger and stupid. We used to jump off the bridge when the tide was coming in and climb out at Beer Can Island.

I remember those days. We were probably in one of the boats you were waiting for to get out of your way.

Yeah, the thread seems to be labeled wrong. One of these days I do want to try panagraphs, but this thread had been far enough along that I decided it better to just leave well enough alone and join in the fun.

Yes, after seeing some example on the net and reading how to do one, panographs look like fun to do. Interesting final product as well :)

Re: Landscape panographs

That is brilliant.
Ever since the photo challenge with the B&W panorama, i've been trying to get one pano, but am not able to get it right.
Can still see the stitch lines in CS6 & i can't figure out why.
Marcel helped me quite a bit, but i haven't had luck.
What program do you use Ken?

Again, thepic just takes my breath away. Great

I am surprised you are having difficulty with the pano function in PS. I took this 8 frame pano of my front yard a little while ago. I have a panoramic attachment I put on my tripod with click stops which takes 16 images for a full 360 degrees. It is designed to be used with a 28mm lens (on FX or 35mm) and it works very well. It has a spirit level at the center so your images are all on the exact same plane, which is very important when you are trying to do a panoramic. I also use a 3 axis spirit level in the camera hotshoe to make sure the camera is perfectly perpandicular in the mount as well. As you can see, because of the trees, the stitching in this image is pretty complex but CS5 handled it flawlessly. Also, there are no seams with the sky. Now perhaps I did this a little differently than you did. All of my images were exposed in manual, so the exposure would be identical from one image to the next. If you were shooting on automatic, variations in the scenes may have called for different exposures, especially in the sky. Next time maybe try using a single exposure in manual and see if that solves your problem

Hope this helps

I always thought this destination was called Mount. Trashmore.
Either way, you must have one hell of a stomach. Even my son looses his appetite when we pass by there.
