Some say he only knows one fact about ducks...... they dont fly !!!!! :D
I do remember seeing his site and having a quick look... and it was a quick look lol
I then remember thinking.... who is he ?
I then remember shaking my head and puzling my face in confusion.
I then remember thinking, this guy is nobody at all and that even I am far far better and acomplished etc.
I then remember thinking, maybe I should do it myself.
I then remember thinking, mmmmmm maybe he knows more than me after all !!!!

On average, I get about a dozen hate mails per day for my anti-Rockwell article...which ranks #2 on the Google search for his name. It got so bad, I actually had to disable comments on the article itself. About 1/2 of the respondents agree with me though.

I ran down your article. I thought it was well put together with good verifiable information. You called it as you saw it and you're right.

It's Rockwell's fault I bought a D3100, four lenses, several Hoya filters etc based on his reviews. I have not regretted any purchased based on a Rockwell review. I was skeptical of the 35mm f1.8 lens for a couple of weeks but I finally got that lens figure out. His reviews for the most part are usable once you get past the hyperbole.

The rest of his site is a complete waste of bandwidth.

He has a section on preferred settings for the D3100. It may work on HIS D3100 but they made for some crappy images on my camera.
Fortunately my 1970's background in film cameras saved the day.
His over saturated highly manipulated images show me he's not actually a photographer, he's uses a DSLR to produce computer generated images. That may work for him, but it's not what I'm about as a amateur photographer.

I am now in a deep depression that my beloved D3100, hailed by Mr Rockwell a year ago as the best compact camera in the world has vanished from his site. Now the D3200 is the best. Did I miss something or did the D3100 turn into a lump of coal when I wasn't looking.

A quick trip around the web shows he's not the only self-appointed internet photography guru. He is the most visible, hence his love/hate relationship with the online universe of photographers.

I'm rambling, I apologize.
I don't hit Rockwell's site on a regular basis. Obviously someone goes there, but I have better things to do with my time. Like real photography.

No need to apologize. Any anti-Rockwell sentiments are more than welcome in this thread. :D

Ole Ken has done a 180 on several camera models, and I doubt he'll ever come clean as to why. I agree that most of his gear/lens reviews are correct, even if poorly written with lackluster technical comparison photos. But the guy shouldn't review cameras...ever. Why? Wade through his camera setup guides and general photography tips. It should be clear in about 50 words or less that he has no clue what he's doing.

LOL! I'm new to this site so I cringed when I saw KR's name in a subject line. I almost didn't open it so as to spare myself the heartburn of reading someone say, "I found this great website!" and having to reply, "no, you didn't". :dread:

"Every camera maker: Nikon, Canon, Minolta, Pentax, Zeiss, Leica, the Russians and more, all make big telephotos. So what? Photography is about getting close. Long lenses are for photographers who lack the skills to get close.
Great animal photographers know how to get right up to wild animals; they don't need 400mm lenses. Great sports photographers get themselves invited to the athlete's home or out onto the field; they don't get stuck in a press box a mile away. "

There's coffee and sweetcorn all over my monitor now - thanks Ken

I feel like such an IDIOT! After reading his pleas for donations (at the end of every review), I sent him $700,000.

I could have spent that money on some really cool lenses.

And I could have kept my house and car too. Before my wife left, she said I was stupid.

Damn you Ken Rockwell! Damn you.

I'm gonna sell my 500mm lens, and use my 35-105 instead. I'm sure i can get close enough to some real nice raptors with that beauty. I think that action should turn me into a professional

Seriously, was this written on his site or was it a statement from a video? Where was it made at? I'm just trying to find the source of it, because it's difficult to believe that someone would really say something as illogical as that.

Actually, i read his pages a lot. There's some seriously funny entertainment there, and sometimes he even speaks sense, but if i read one of his reviews, and it sounds too sensible, i go and read other reviews on the same lens or whatever, just to be sure

Yep. I'll just take most of his comments with a grain of salt.
