16/10/14 Whilst waiting for the wife to finish getting sorted for our weekend away I took this picture of her nails. I used the on camera flash, spot focusing, against a black top. then I dropped the shadows upped the blacks, did some cross processing to change the colour a little then finished it off by playing with the hue and saturation and adjusting individual channels.

Ok now to drive to Newcastle...

tonight's effort. Not one of my best but it had been a long day and I had just fixed my camera after some Spaniard had attempted to steal it late on Sunday night. I managed to keep hold and he ran off. unfortunately it hit the floor denting the corner of the casting and resulting in a small crack and the door to the memory cards not been able to close. Managed to pull the dent out a little and the door closes now. Think I'm going to have to get a cover for it now as it won't be fully weather sealed any more.

Thank Vixen, mostly just a dented and cracked base plate. I've been in touch with my insurance and Nikon UK about getting it repaired

Ok today is a mug with Ella on it. There new and I actually wanted a white back ground shot to check the sensor for muck

22/10/14 is playing with soft boxes. Verdict I need a none reflective back ground and a strong tripod as the 70-200 is a heavy lens to shot macro hand held. This is also my last shot with the D800 for around a month as its off to the insurance company get checked to see how much its going to cost to fix, if its viable then they will either fix it replaced it.

Today 13/10/14 I've been playing with my 70-200 and of coarse learning about my new camera.

This... well this is tea. Probably could have shot it on the table them I wouldn't have to cut so much of the back ground out.

Not big on veggies then?

Sorry to hear about the camera. I can never understand why one would bother to steal something like that with no battery charger etc. I guess 10 bucks is better than nothing to these guys. You should have chased him into the path of an oncoming bus!

Hope you have something else to shoot with while it is away.

Veg is so over rated. I guess he really wanted an up grade. Maybe he was a canon user? I've still got my D3100 and my lenses so I'll be ok. Just annoying as I've not even had the thing a month yet. Some people say it would be fine but I'll never rest knowing that there's a crack in the case. It's always going to be a weakness. Hopefully it will be back before I go to London and the lakes in December!

You can add a charger for next to nothing or put it on ebay with charger lost during move :D

Try lighting it from the other side so you get a heart shaped shadow in front of the ring. You see the whole heart shape that way. I've seen this done in a novel or dictionary so that the readable words are about love. That is a nice touch. I've also seen it done with 2 rings to give a double heart effect.

It's a great shot but I really think you need to see the full heart shaped shadow.

Cheers vixen, I'll have to try that. i need to get a wireless trigger as my flash doesn't work in slave. The book was the first thing I grabbed! It's actually jeremy clark sons book. I will probably use something a little more appropriate next time. To be honest I didn't even look what was on a he page and didn't think anyone would attempt to read it (how wrong was I!)

Haha...:D....I didn't pick a great book when I did a similar shot early in the year for this 365. I never thought of it until I went looking at how other people did this sort of shot. I think the word "battalion" caught my eye in your shot and so I had to read a few more :D

Pretty sure I did my shot before I got a flash and used a desk lamp of flashlight to get my shadow. Too far back to really remember, but I now it took a little time to get it right, and now of course I know I could easily improve on that shot now ;) (coz it wasn't really all that good :D )

I think after taking the shot I read Afghanistan in the text. Also in hindsight I probably should have back lit its ring and used a tripod instead of hand holding the camera. Lazy shooting I guess. I may revisit it over the weekend and see if I can do a better one! Probably use a better book too!!
