D7100 showed up at lunch today. I'd forgotten the added bonus the DX reach plus 24MP resolution would give me on macro photography.

Help meeeeeee!!!!!

I'd forgotten how nice it is to have that extra reach for some things.

Just playing around I'm really impressed with this sensor. Noise is extremely well handled even at ISO 6400. So far I'm not regretting this decision.

Image count on the body started in the low 800's, so I'm assuming it's a very low mileage refurb. Haven't had a chance to pull the shutter count from the EXIF yet.

You got a steal! I read that Adorama's ebay pricing on those went up to $950 now! You made out like a bandit.....now you know why I don't want to sell my D7100. Great picture of the fly.....how do you get so close without it flying away?

It was sleeping. Can't you see all its eyes closed?! ;)

Glad I jumped on it. I actually called online customer service to ask about the VIP warranty and the guy on the phone was adamant about the fact that they couldn't possibly offer that price other than thru ebay. I was going ask him how that was possible since they're paying eBay a commission to sell something they're actually fulfilling on, but I've learned that you can argue with a NY Hasidic camera merchant on some things. LOL

Ick! Jake, a fly got in your photo! ;)

Did you use any extension tubes? If so, what one(s)? And did you have to crop much if at all? Bugs definitely are NOT my thing, but the info in general will help a lot of people (myself included). DX cameras are great for macro. Must say it's a nice photo even though it isn't a subject I prefer.

No tubes (don't own any). Here's the uncropped, unrotated version...

I expected it to fly off. This is as close as I dared get. For the curious, it's on an old tennis ball that's been cut so it fits over top of the metal fence posts for our garden fencing. Keeps me from getting scratches on the arms from where the sledge hammer bent and sharpened them.

Saw this today walking to Easton Farmer's Market and really liked the way the shadow ran along the brick wall and almost creates the look of a rail for the "steps" in the concrete, while mirroring the real stairs on the other side.

Love that shot! So many things to look at in such a simple subject. Great capture with the shadow in the right spot. Looking forward to many more 7100 shots to come.

Snagged this yesterday standing on our deck. I have a couple better shots of the hummingbird waiting to be processed, but love the wasp in flight with him. Wish it was as sharp as the shots before, but the bird was moving and focus got just a touch soft. So happy to have a DX for the long Sigma again.

As much as I love the shot, I'd crop it a bit more. The near border flowers in the left bottom and top right do distract me quite a bit from the main subject. I'm sure you have enough pixels to do this. :)

I could surely bring it in a bit, but not enough to eliminate the flowers you find distracting without also eliminating part flow it's using, which I find distracting - at least without changing the crop ratio. I could eliminate most of it with a 4:5 crop, and likely would for framing. But this is just my 365 so cut me some slack!! LOL :)

Better?!

I also reversed the vignetting to fade the areas outside the bird instead of darken them.

Would you mind if I posted my cropped version of your shot in this thread to demonstrate my preference?
