Cyclone Debbie has just been updated to cat4. A bit of a relief for us that it looks to have veered northwards slightly, but hopefully it wont hit Bowen for those residents sake.

Well we are starting to see the winds ease off now. We have been on the southern edge of the storm most of last night and all of today. It has finally crossed the coast and has been downgraded to a cat3 cyclone now. Our strongest winds were around midday today, gusts up to 160kmh/100mph. A bit further north they were getting hit by 260kmh winds all morning.

This is the tracking map issued just recently.

I didnt get my camera out until late this afternoon, the winds had eased quite a bit by this time.
I only got some photos looking out through one of the glass doors as its still raining heavily and I didnt want to get the camera wet.

The mains power went out for us at 9am this morning and is still out, now 7pm. I am running the house on a diesel generator, so we have not had to rough it too much.
Not sure when the power will be reconnected, hopefully we will know what to expect tomorrow when the crews can get out to inspect the lines.
The last time we were hit by a cyclone back in 2010, we didnt get power put back on for 2 weeks.

Maybe one of those Ergon Energy trucks parked ready and waiting will be assigned to your street :D I saw that they have 80 waiting and ready and have said they have much more resources than for Yasi so maybe you won't have to wait 2 weeks this time

Still running on the generator here. Our phone came back on today, we are still on copper cable phoneline, neighbours who are only using mobile service have nothing because the repeater tower is out of action.
The wind was gone today but we got smashed by heavy rain all day. I tipped out 700mm ( 28 inches ) from the rain gauge today, and it overflowed once, not sure how much we missed there. Our driveway was like a river, I estimate I has lost 60 tonnes of rock and gravel from the driveway, it is now spread out over the bottom paddock and beyond.

I took this photo after it had died down a lot, when it was in full force, I was out there trying to divert the flow.

Through my back window looking at the driveway, it is 100 meters to the top of the hill...

So sorry. Being from south Louisiana, I know what it is like to ride out hurricanes and power outs.
Glad you didn't get any damage to the house.

We have our power back on now, but phone looks like another 2 weeks before it will be reconnected.

There is a small community called Drapers Siding, (its about 20 minutes drive west of my house) every house there got water through it, because they had to let water out of Kinchant Dam. I spoke to one woman today who had 1.5 meters ( 5 feet ) of water through her house, she has lost everything, except for the shell of her house.

Yes....it's heartbreaking to lose it all.

I don't record rainfally every day but have a gauge and record the bigger falls...like 20mm or more. I counted up the rain I had recorded for March....1085mm!! I think that broke the March record for us. I know it feels like forever since we've had a dry day. Maybe next week.

It's been a wet week that's for sure. I recorded 929mm for the week, 700mm of that was on Wednesday morning.
I was talking to a bloke on Saturday that lives on the other side of the mountain to me, maybe 15 kilometres from my house, he said he recorded 1600mm over the cyclone event, that's an awful lot of rain.

Glad all is well there mate, was definitely alot worse than was expected. Rumour has it that BOM are closely watching a possible tropical low / trough out to the East. Lets hope this does nothing and remains just watched...

Stay safe.

Thanks Scott.
We dont need another system to come in now, it would be disastrous, lets hope it doesnt eventuate.

Glad you all are getting things worked out. That is tough. Praying for you all.
