glad your area didn't get hit too bad....we've been in the eye of 3 cat 1's and 2's.....when we lived in Florida.

Thanks Chris, the whole of Queenslands east coast was lucky with that one, it could have been so much worse.

My Parents were in the worst hit area when cyclone Yasi ( cat 5 ) hit a few years ago. They sat it out in the house my Grandad built in the 1940's.
Many newer houses were flattened.

This photo was taken just up the road from their house at Port Hinchinbrook.

I did not take this photo.

I went down to the creek this afternoon hoping to see a Platypus. As there were none about, I took a photo of these fruit in a tree by the creek.

i do not know what it is that makes them so damm cute. Just keep them coming every once in a while, need that wallaby fix. :)

No worries Ron, I will have to remember to shoot them a bit more often.

We see them everyday, so they do get a bit "Ho-Hum, more Hoppers", but sometimes their antics really make us laugh.

Went for a walk with the macro lens on today, I already posted a couple of photos in the insect thread, and one in the spider thread.

Here are a few more.

I took this with the 105 macro lens, it is cropped at about 100%.

This is one of my neighbours in his new flying machine, his old one was about half the size, very noisy and quite slow compared to his new one.

I have been using my spare time lately to build a bench for my new lathe.
It has been a while since I posted any photos, so I will post a few of my new bench.

This lathe came with a 1/2 hp motor, I have removed it and I have replaced it with a 1 hp 3 phase motor, which I am going to power with a VFD ( variable frequency drive ) which will give me variable speed, soft start, electric braking, reverse, etc.

I love wood working myself, and I have a great Foredom rotory setup and a good rechargeable dremel too. But I haven't got to use them much since I got them. I like to carve horn, bone and ivory the most, but I haven't got around to getting any of the materials. Well anyway I always loved the smell when working with woods. It brings back a lot of great memories! :D

Have fun turning. My grandpa didn't work with wood, he made rugs in his free time.

I am sure I will have fun :).

Did your Grandpa's love of making rugs rub off onto you Marilynne ?

My Grandad was a Cobbler and a Miner, mainly gold and tin. He built houses and furniture out of necessity to provide for his family. My Grandma made some fantastic rugs, she taught many others how to make them as well.

No, I did needlepoint and cross stitch. Mom tried to teach me to crochet and knit, but those never caught on. I did make some small latch hook rugs, but nothing like grandpa's.
