Such amazing shots. Lov ethem so much
How do you do that?
What exactly do you want to know Lawrence ?
Make sure you bring that macro lens with you when you come over to Australia, Scott will put you onto some great spiders, they grow real big up on the Cape
.
Well I want to know how you get so much of the beast in focus. My Tamron 90 has such a shallow DOF no matter what I try. I am glad Scott has a Tamron 90 as well so he can show me but August seems an awful long tome to have to wait.
I am beginning to suspect my Tamron may need some attention and this might be the reason the previous owner sold it. I'll be annoyed if that is the case and really hope it is my technique that is at fault.
I think a shallow depth of field is the nature of the beast with all macro lenses Lawrence.
I use mine at f16 which seems to be the best trade off for my setup. Even at f16 the DOF is about 1mm or less when focused in close, it just takes practice and lots of patience to get the focus pane in the right spot, I still get an awful lot of blurry shots in between the good ones, my keeper rate would average around 10%. Though on a good day I can nail them one after the other, but that takes zero wind and insects that stay still even while the flash is blasting away at them.
I am sure Scott will be a big help if you want to wait until your trip.
Though if you want to brush up on your macro technique before the trip, why not start a thread and start posting some of your macro shots , I am sure with a bit of help you will be taking killer shots before you come over this way.
You should be stalking all our posts and learning how to survive here in Australia... These bugs are taken with a zoom lens and are capable of carrying away the average rotti or German shephard. But if you want to learn macro as in tiny things that can still kill you but you will never see them then come here too and we can teach you, or use you for baitThat's a good idea.
I only cottoned on to the flash thing the other day.
I'm going to try some today. Might be easier to practice on static things first.

I take it you would get quite a few tourists through the area.
That's a good idea.

Otherwise what am I to do when he is here???? He will know everything and I will be too busy relaxing, drinking, to save him or photograph him getting eaten by a crocYeah, you're right, we should be making him work for it.
