I'm probably gonna get toasted for this, but what does my D5100 do my ELPH300HS won't

This is a forum for Nikon users and enthusiasts. We're here because we like our Nikons. If you prefer another brand, please go to that forum. Every brand has its good and bad points. You're the judge of what makes you happy. Take the camera back and use your ELPH. You probably will never appreciate 5100's features or that of any other DSLR.

If you were to put the pictures side by side, no, no one would be able to tell which picture was taken with what camera. I have posted a few pictures on here taken with my mobile and i highly doubt that anyone knew that they were taken with my mobile.

Not quite true. (I know you were making an extreme statement, but even so...) When Nokia announced their new phone, they showed both video and stills they claimed from the phone's camera. It was demonstrated that the video wasn't actually from the phone, and then later that the stills weren't either. And in the case of the stills, it was the limited aperture range of the phone that was used to prove that it could not have shot those images. This was literally a case of images that could not be shot by a particular camera.
