Bill,

I would sit tight if I were you. As others have said, there are announcements coming. Once the new cameras are announced, you can make your decision and most likely benefit from the wait. Prices on these older models and only DROP!

I had a D90 for two years and I LOVED IT! It takes amazing pictures and feels like a pro camera if you grip it. I wouldn't hesitate to grip it if I were you. In my opinion, the D90 was one of those perfect model that come around every once in a while and will last in popularity over time.

It has a rugged feel, I found it 100% reliable, took great images and I enjoyed every minute I had it in my hands. I found nothing to complain about with it.

My only issue with it was I bought it at a point in time that is similar to your situation. I had no idea the D7000 was coming out and two months after I got the D90, I found out about the D7000 and would have much more preferred that because it was a 16mp camera.

The bright side is, I did nothing after that because I couldn't justify the cost to upgrade to a D7000 and waited. I recently picked up a D800 and I am never looking back! Don't rush, wait and see.

You should be able to pick one up with low shutter count as well, I have seen quite a few go out on the local Craig's list. Make sure you meet up with the seller if you do choose this path and make sure you get the original receipt.
