Holidays Disaster Hit us!!

Well folks, now when we have practically no extra money, and very little money available at all, disaster struck! We found our hotwater heater leaking, with power wires in the water, and water shutoff to just the hot water heater(if we have one) is likely behind a refrigerator I can't manage to move! So we sit here with the leak likely draining through the floor from all I can tell, waiting till tomorrow to find out if we have enough money to have the leak fixed(if it can be fixed without replacing it)! Replacing it will surely cost more than we can come up with right now even robbing from our regular bills!
But we do have some hope even if replacement is unavoidable! We have a check coming in on the 18th, reserved for bills, that we will have to steal from! So my hope is either it can be fixed tomorrow, or that there is a shut off valve we can employ to cut water from the leaking hot water tank! To top it off, I have no clue which breaker will shut off power to the wire flooded tank!

An update likely to be posted tomorrow, barring unforeseen disasters yet to be known!

Is there no shut off's on top of the tank and your breaker should be marked in your panel??

No shut off valve that I could see, and the breakers aren't marked.

The breaker *should* be (probably) a 40 amp double breaker connected together. It is a dedicated breaker for just the HW heater. As to a water valve shutoff, by code there "should" be on the inlet side of the hot water tank. Good luck, Bill.

I shut off a couple 30A breakers, that are hopefully the right ones. I will just have to wait till tomorrow for anything else, until the plumber shows up.

If you are on city water, there should be a shutoff on the meter pit.

If you are on a well, you need to shut off the power to the pump.

Yes there is a master shut off valve for the whole house. But we can't go without water.

Happened with me too, recently, with the leaky pipe being under our garage slab. We ended up re-routing pipes altogether, with me helping the plumber to reduce labor costs, and it still hit me for $900.00... Hope yours is a bit less costly, my friend.

Then our washer went out.......... BWAHAHAHAHAHA! I guess it all has to go out some time, right? I just wish it wouldn't turn into a chain reaction!

Yes there is a master shut off valve for the whole house. But we can't go without water.

If you fill a few pails and containers, you could shut the water until you really need to use it. But doing this without cutting the electricity to your water heater would be dangerous.

@Bill16, Yep I meant 30amp. The two you shut off are probably for the clothes dryer and the HW heater. They should have been double breakers joined together. One pair for each appliance (HW Heater and Clothes Dryer). That is pretty much standard (of course you are in the South, Ha!). 50A for AC and Electric Stove.

Our dryer breakers are the only ones marked! And I come from Oregon, though I'm now a southern gentleman( cough C C Cough, nearly choked on that one)!lol

Sorry to hear about your water heater. Hope you find the right breaker. Water and power are not to be fooled with. You could have an even bigger disaster on your hands.
You're lucky you're getting a big tax refund though. Maybe you can work out a deal with the plumber.

I think we will figure some way to eventually cover this unforeseen issue, without messing with our tax returns that are still months away yet.
But don't worry buddy, after reading your post to my wife, she promised to help me get the holy Trinity of Nikon lenses, tax return or no tax returns to use! Lol What a lucky man I am to have such a wonderful wife!
