Marilynne, how come these workshops are free? Over here, its sooooo expensive normally (and then sometimes you get lucky, like I did with the one I went at).

I really have no idea why they're free. The BIF workshop was at a national park. The second was run by the county. Maybe the instructors do it as volunteer work, but they do accept donations.

Good luck in your endeavor.

Some of the free stuff we have around here is Government funded. It's viewed more as a public outreach program to generate interest in the parks and things like that in the area.

It sounds like they may be doing something similar in your area Marilynne.

I'm sure you're right Deezey. Loxahatchee National Park also has free nature walks with a marsh naturalist four days a week.

Our local High School does some evening classes every so often and charges $30 to $100 depending on what they are doing. They are usually two or three nights for about 2 hrs each night. I taught a cell phone photo class for the local library last year and did that for free. I figured it was a community service and it only lasted about 2 hours. I guess if I had charged for that I would have charged about $20 as it really was not that technical.

I am thinking at least 50$ pr person. Looked at the prices at this 'for everybody evening school', prices vary from $90 til $180, more hours but beginners class (how to use the settings and so on).

Not sure if I am doing it, but maybe they'll talk me into it. I'm thinking, since I dont really want to make this offer myself, then its okay to say a higher price ;) Its going to take half a day at least + preparations, so my hourly price wont really be that much in the end.

And Don said, not to sell myself short! (Neither should you)

My dog in the back, and his funny border collie friend ;)

These are other places on forum as well, but thought they should be in my thread too.

Am trying to get better at portrait photography, but finding it a bit difficult.

I do like this but sadly I didn't notice the dot in her right eye, which makes the eye look really weird! And I find PP on this type of image, really hard to figure out - opposite of what I normally do, one might say

Working on 2 series, one is called Oldies but Goldies and will be of well, old dogs. Im a bit nervous about this, for some reason. Maybe its because one of the ladies are driving 3-4 hours each way, to get these pictures.

Was out testing my idea today (please ignore the leash but a kinder garden was passing by so I just wanted to be sure that my dog stayed). Of course the images will be very different as its with different breeds/mix, but think Im pretty satisfied:

I kinda like the leash. Breaks up the white a bit for me.

And I would be happy with those shots. I don't know what it is about the bottom right image but I trend to just gloss right over that one. I think for me the eye is too close to the "exit" side of the frame. (Yeah....don't know what you would really call it.)

I do like the image layout though. Are you going to do any puppy photos now that you are doing the older dogs?

Yes, the bottom right could have been done better. I tried cropping closer but that looked even weirder.

I AM happy with this shot but can I do it again for the series? Have been soooo nervous because weather forecast says cloudy and rainy all weekend. The location is under a house, and for these pictures of my dog, even though sun was out (you can see it on his fur, sun hitting one of the walls and then him afterwards), I had to go down to shutter 1/40 for aperture 8. Did aperture 3.5 too, and think shutter were about 1/160-1/200. And this was with the sun out.

So yesterday I went to get a flash!, so feel a little better about the weekend now (doing 10+ different dogs at this place. Yes, hate myself for always taking on to much lol).

GREAT idea with puppies!! Ooooh I love puppies.

And a few more:

And this one, they asked if I could just get one with the owner too, not so easy as the dog is gigantic lol. If they sat next to each other, it looked pretty funny.

Havent had much time to read, as I suddenly got busy. Client contact is a lot, I must say! Feel like I've been emailing all week.

I did these above portraits on 7 dogs, family pictures and last a small series of 2 dogs last weekend.
Then the lady with the small series contacted me again, if it would be allowed to use one of the images on a yearbook for this breed, made in England, going to be the cover! Of course! I wrote the guy but haven't heard back yet.

Then I asked my friend if I could photograph their wedding (tomorrow) to try this out, but then someone I know a little wrote me and asked if I could photograph for her wedding next weekend. And now a total stranger have written me, asking if I could do it at her wedding 2 weeks from now. Wow!

Besides this, I got a kid and dog series, a solo dog series and a series of 2 kids coming up, a get-away weekend at my friend in Germany (maybe just sleeping the whole weekend away lol) and thats actually more or less fully booked for the rest of the month (I have another job too, so cannot photograph in weekdays).
Also a portrait booked and one more who might have a dog series, both next month.

I am a bit ... what just happened? But nothing to do but just, do it. Learn and have fun. Right now Im actually not even nervous about tomorrow. Maybe it'll come when I realize, I dont know what to wear haha. Women problems.

You say no big white dress, well a tip you may know about is if it is a big white dress carry two or three lead weights in your car covered in white satin, then if its a bit breezy you can use them to control the dress.

That is such a great tip! Thank you :)

Oh, I see I already had told you about 2 of the weddings - sorry. Feels like forever since I wrote that, so I forgot. Getting old, huh ;)

Today weather is beautiful! Sunny and a little bit of wind.

A little difficult, photographing weddings, so very glad I had a "test". Not done with the pictures but think the wedding portraits came out pretty good :)
