I like what you did Rick. Since the 3100 doesn't have bracketing, can you share with me how you got your initial shots?
I'm guessing a tripod and very careful adjusting of the camera settings, but not sure.

Tripod, set Aperature at F8, use the EV button and dial to set plus and minus 2 for the over/under shots (this will change the shutter speed for each). I use the built in timer at 2 seconds to insure no shake.

Rick, you have so improved your HDR Techniques! I like the shot, personally I think it would have presented better with a little more angle on the bridge. Also, for my taste which means subjective, the HDR technique is a blend between real and surreal, personally this is just a tad to far towards the surreal, backing off the sliders (more real) is more to my taste. Very nice, Gorgeous sky, keep up the growing and shooting!

Thanks Bill. There are so many options with HDR and there certainly is a fine line between real and surreal. It's amazing what you can do with an otherwise bland shot.

Here is the middle raw exposure for comparison. Notice the darkness under the arches compared to the HDR image.

You are so right, your HDR sheds more light on the subject for sure.

ps: Don't forget "4. Include as much info as possible along with your image, including:
  • EXIF data
  • Location
  • Intent/artistic interpretation of the photograph"

And here's a perfect example of the subjective nature of photography: I LOVE the vibrance of your shot and don't think it leans toward the surreal at all. Maybe that's the way the world looks to me. Your sky looks great and not cartoonish and to me the hdr processing is perfect.

Next time you shoot this, experiment from various angles so that maybe you get a more dramatic viewpoint (without falling in the river :) )

Yeah, I'd have to agree with Helene here, in that it doesn't look cartoonish at all. It's very vibrant, the clouds look fantastic, and the overall colour and balance of this shot is really outstanding. And this is coming from a guy that isn't a big fan of surrealistic HDR.
