Pat, I shoot single focus point with a single shot almost 100% of the time like I did here. I almost never shoot multiple frames at a subject. I have more of a sniper philosophy of, "One shot one kill" than a point a machine-gun and pull the trigger attitude.

I know this wasn't aimed at me but I share that same view. No spray and pray here, although the shutter button on the D7100 is so sensitive I sometimes find myself firing off 2 shots by accident :D

Think i need to add to this,if you have the strength and physical ability to point something like a 600mm lens at a subject take one shot and have it in the bag then great, unfortunately i no longer have that,i need a burst of 3 to 4 shots when using long lenses,i know of two other amateur photographers locally who where on the verge of giving up due to age and shaky hands until i persuaded them to shoot short bursts, this doesn't solve it every time but it gives a higher keeper rate.
The machine gun attitude is wrong and should not be needed by the majority of photographers it shouldn't be discounted though if it allows some one to keep enjoying there hobby,it wasn't needed by me until a couple of years ago and it didn't solve my target shooting which i have all but given up on.

Mike, I in no way meant it as a negative toward anyone's method of shooting. Some use a tripod and probably most shoot multiple frames to get a shot but to me whatever works for the person doing the shooting and gets the results they want is the best method! There are always many ways of getting the same shot and the only wrong method is the one that prevents you from getting the image that you are after. For me I find that shooting the way I do works for me and results in a much higher keeper rate and after all isn't that what we are all trying to achieve? I also shoot mainly in "aperture priority mode" and sometime will shoot in "shutter priority mode". I have friends of mine that insist that to be a good photographer that shooting in "Manual mode" is the only way to go but I find it too slow for me and only shoot in "Manual" when I am using "fill flash". I also have a tendency to use wider F stops to make the background blur so the subject will pop out more but all of these methods work for me and the style of image that I'm looking for. Does this mean that I'm right and others are wrong if they don't do it the same as I do? well certainly not, it just means we have different styles and ways of achieving what we are looking for so for me the right way of doing things is the way that works best for you.

Many times when I have posted images since getting the Tamron 150-600mm lens I have added that it was shot handheld at 600mm. The reason I did this was to let you know that the VC works well and that it can be shot handheld if your are able to hold it up and if you technique while shooting longer focal lengths is good. I made a point of saying that it was also shot at 600mm to let everyone see what this lens could do at full zoom which should be it's weakest focal length and that shooting at anything less than that should be even better quality. Basically the reason I posted the 600mm and the fact it was shot handheld was to let people know that the lens was up to the task if the person using it had the ability to shoot at long focal lengths themselves and that the lens wouldn't hold them back.

Jeff the only reason i added my bit was so any one reading it would not think they where the only ones needing help with hand holding long lenses,i would never think ill of you or your posts you have helped many members including me,sorry if you took it as a criticism it most definitely was not meant as one.
