I'll stick up for Jared with the fireworks photos. He said they weren't great shots, but he learned from them. That's something we all have to do as photographers. It's a good lesson.

Meanwhile, Jeff, your fireworks shot with the Disney castle ranks as one of the best fireworks shots I've ever seen. I'm hoping you are going to print and frame that one!

I admit that I was just to lazy to walk the half mile from my house to the lake where fireworks were set off in my hometown this year.

So the scores:

Jeff: 10
Jared: 5
Woody:0

:)

I was able to take a few on Canada Day. First time shooting fireworks too but I'd still give them a 5 at best. Though I'll probably upload them and see what you guys think. :p

Well, it looks like we have someone new to beat-up on. KR must be relieved. I think it would be wise to not compare oneself to another photographer. They have their "style" and you have yours. To say that ones photos are better then Fro's is a tad arrogant. As i said before, photography is subjective. We have to stop putting down other "photographers", even if their initials are KR. It may make you feel good and give you a bit of an ego rub; but in the end, it's still them and you. Fro makes an honest living at something he likes, why put him down for that? I don't much like his schtick, but i commend him on making a living by doing something he obviously loves. Move along people.

To me if you are out there giving advice, making and selling DVD's and posting videos you should be able to back up what you are doing with your work. All I am doing is making an observation and giving my opinion on the images he has been posting. I would think that someone that claims to have the experience and ability he says he has would produce much better results that what he is showing.

I am not saying my images are great and his are bad, the point I was trying to make is that with his so called years of experience at being a professional and making a living at photography that the pictures he has been showing don't seem to reflect all the experience he has. I have never claimed to be a professional or have award winning pictures like he says he has. I do photography as a hobby and find it hard to believe that a professional that has put out a video last year and this year on how to shoot fireworks would come back and say that he didn't know what to expect and use that as an excuse for failing to get good pictures.

As far as me being arrogant, I think anyone that knows me or has ever talked with me would disagree with that statement. All I said was that I came back with some images that I liked. For me as a non professional and this being only the second time I have ever tried taking fireworks pictures I was happy with my results. I was comparing his experience to his results and my level of experience to what I managed to get.

I looked back and saw where I did say that I thought mine were much better that I posted in my "Grandpaw" thread than the ones he posted. I will stand by that statement. I didn't say I was a better photographer, just that I thought the images I posted were better than the ones he posted in the video where he said he failed.

Actually he does/did shots for Rolling Stone.
Also, as said before, the title of the video is,"My 2015 Fireworks "FAIL" photos and what I learned from them"

Everyone screws up shots , even the best of the best. Most just don't put up their bad shots for all to see.

The only problem I have with this whole thing is the "mind blowing" comment, which I think was said in kind of a humorous way. He is from Philly after all.

Agreed.

Nice avatar BTW :)

Now Moose Peterson, i'm sure he knows what he's talking about, but i find him painful to watch, and as interesting as paint drying

I looked him up to check him out. He seems like he has a lot of great information to share. But the video I watched, he went about a minute and then started all over. He would mess up and do another take several times. It made the video painful to watch. I would think if he's going to spend the time to have a nice intro and setup cameras and lighting that he would edit his finished product before uploading to YouTube.

Either way, he might have had great information but I couldn't sit through all the mishaps to get to it.

I think Jared is entertaining. His lessons seem helpful.

"The few I took and posted in my "Grandpaw" thread I think are much better even though it is only my second attempt."

Your words, not mine. As you said, he admitted that he "failed". Bottom line is, i am not sure that we need to call him out on this. He admitted that the photos were a failure, which shows his human side. We all make mistakes and if we admit to them, we have taken the high road. I see no sense in making a big deal out of this on an internet forum. If you don't like what he does, just forget about him and move on. Tell him directly what you think, not us. As with another member who forever had a hard on for KR, why is it that we take it upon ourselves to be some sort of internet gestapo and make every effort to point out the shortcomings of someone? There are numerous other "photographers" on the net, you don't have to watch Fro. Get over it.

I kinda like Froknowsphoto since he's amusing but I keep in mind I'm watching a shopping channel. In the end, there's money involved and thus a product being sold. But even when, there's stuff he said I did benefit from.

Ken is something else. He's a referral whore and will say anything as long as it is in his benefit. Not even a year ago lenses like Tamron and Sigma did not meet his "standards" and he didn't review them. Until he probably realized how many people buy them. There's plenty a review now. You can't pass on those pennies.

Unlike Fro, Ken is full of sh*t.

You might want to re-read the last couple of lines in my post! I did mention that very statement in the post I made. As far as telling him what I think, I did that very thing on the "Mind blowing Pictures of the Grand canyon" along with others and you know what happened? He took about four positive posts he found and left them and deleted all the many negative ones and closed the comment section. If you hired him as a pro photographer for a project and when he got there to do the shoot said this isn't what I was expecting, I fail, what would your opinion of his abilities be? Wouldn't you expect him to draw on his experience and get the job done?

My reason for my posts were to voice my opinion, which I did and if in the future as long as there is still freedom of speech I will post again if I feel the urge. Thanks for your input.

Blacktop, I just want to say that my Disney castle and fireworks picture is my very first attempt at fireworks pictures and this past weekend is my second attempt at this type of shooting. Nothing is mind blowing but I am happy with what I managed to get. I had planned on shooting with a lighthouse and casinos in the foreground with reflections in the water but I was unable to get to that location to shoot. I am still learning and hope to get a interesting foreground next year to add to my image.

I've watched quite a few of his videos and the only time I've seen anything like what you described was one where he posted footage of him when he first started to show how bad he was. Generally his productions seem good to me, I just got fed up of him and most of his new content wasn't interesting to me.
