Fro Knows Photo fans

It helps to start with a mind blowing subject. I'm not a fan of the crops either, but I can appreciate the problem when faced with a great sky and foreground at the same time. Many here could have produced the same results, given the opportunity.

I'm off to Mount Rushmore and The Badlands later this summer, hopefully I can make the best of the opportunity.

Judging by your past work, I can't wait to see your Badlands shots. If you have never seen it in real life you won't be disappointed. The colors are fantastic.

Considering the fact that video is nothing but a commercial for Squarespace I think it accomplished its goal.

I agree. Squarespace is the focus there, not his Grand Canyon visit. That Jared would resort to hyperbole is nothing new - that's kind of been his schtick all along.

He's a Youtube-celebrity. This is exactly what I expected him to be like. Most (notice I say most, not all) these days think they're somehow on a higher level than everyone else and that their opinion is basically the truth no matter what just because their Youtube channel has some big numbers on it, it's especially funny when he talks about a type of photography he obviously doesn't have much experience or skill in (which as others have said, is wildlife). :p I've seen some much humbler photographers take better photos than these (many of them are members of this forum.) This is basically why I don't waste time watching most major Youtubers.

As for the image itself, it's nice but the fact he gives himself such a major pat on the back and calls it "mind-blowing" yet uploads it in B&W leads me to believe it's not as amazing as he wants people to believe. I know lots of people love the B&W look but we all know it can be used to hide some things that make an image look not as good as it could be. If the image is so great, why not show it in all it's colorful glory? Deleting comments is always a source of suspicion as well.

I like Jared, he's entertaining. Okay his podcast things are too long and meandering for me, and his sniff tests are a waste of time imo. I watched one of his youtube clips where he went to a seaside airshow, and he didn't have a clue what settings to use, even asking other photographers around him. But he has his area of specialty, and that's concerts and portraits. I still like him tho. Now Moose Peterson, i'm sure he knows what he's talking about, but i find him painful to watch, and as interesting as paint drying

Well, Jared just posted his video on his fireworks shots and I personally would have deleted them. The few I took and posted in my "Grandpaw" thread I think are much better even though it is only my second attempt. He also put out a video before hand with 16 tips on taking fireworks which he evidently didn't watch.

I don't know whether I should laugh or just facepalm.

Jared decided at the last minute to go with a friend to go to a roof top and take some fireworks photos. He took a D4S, 24-70, 70-200 lens and a tripod. He was on a roof top and could not get any city landscape in the photos. Now for my situation..... A friend of mine and I decided at the last minute to go and take firework photos. We left late because it was supposed to have thunderstorms at the same time the fireworks were to be set off. We went and ended up on the top floor of the parking garage of the Beau Rivage Casino and could not get any city landscape in our pictures either. I took a D600, 24-70 lens a 70-200 lens and a tripod, sound familiar?

Jared is the professional here and I am not, he put out a video before hand giving you 16 tips on how to shoot fireworks, I didn't, but I did watch several videos about shooting fireworks including his. I do not claim to be a professional photographer or have a following of thousands like he does but I did come back with some shots that I liked. The more I look at his actual images the less impressed I am becoming. He talks a good game but it seems his photos are just not coming up to the level of talk he gives out. Just my opinion! As a professional, you should be able to come back with pictures and NOT excuses.

See his video here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHnf201jrD0

You know what they say: "It's not what you sell but how you sell it." ;)

I think one of the problems of this age is that while in the past a photographer took a lifetime to get good at one specific type of photography, these days they think they can do everything at once and be good at it too.

Part of the problem is the constant urge to increase those numbers online.

Another problem is that it's so easy for people like Fro to become well-known online for no good reason. :p

Actually he does/did shots for Rolling Stone.
Also, as said before, the title of the video is,"My 2015 Fireworks "FAIL" photos and what I learned from them"

Everyone screws up shots , even the best of the best. Most just don't put up their bad shots for all to see.

The only problem I have with this whole thing is the "mind blowing" comment, which I think was said in kind of a humorous way. He is from Philly after all.

The shots he does put up aren't that great either considering how much he self-promotes himself and as people have mentioned he seems to think he is in a position to give an opinion on stuff he knows almost nothing about or is unskilled at.

I won't say he's a bad photographer, but there are plenty of better ones people would be better off giving their attention to.

Well, it looks like we have someone new to beat-up on. KR must be relieved. I think it would be wise to not compare oneself to another photographer. They have their "style" and you have yours. To say that ones photos are better then Fro's is a tad arrogant. As i said before, photography is subjective. We have to stop putting down other "photographers", even if their initials are KR. It may make you feel good and give you a bit of an ego rub; but in the end, it's still them and you. Fro makes an honest living at something he likes, why put him down for that? I don't much like his schtick, but i commend him on making a living by doing something he obviously loves. Move along people.
