For the folks in the UK... Jessops re-opening!

Unfortunately, having had a look at the website and been to their store in Birmingham over the weekend, they are still over priced compared to the competition, and this was one of the main reasons they went into administration in the first place.

Unless Jessops (and other high street chains in the UK) change their cost operating model, it's always going to be a bleak end for them.

Shame really, as Jessops is one of the few camera shops you can actually go in and get some hands on feel with kit before you buy it.
Ashamedly I've gone in many a time, had a good look, feel, play with things I'm interested in, then left and ordered it online for a much cheaper price :)

I've always found Jessops to be awful, i much prefer the independent small shops, but no high street retailer can complete with online shops in Honk Kong and the like, I got my D600 form Hong Kong, ordered it on Friday afternoon and it turned up at my front door on Monday, free delivery and £300 cheaper than anywhere in the UK. Its a no brainer.

I'm not rich enough to support high street retailers, as much as i would like to.

I do agree, some of the Jessops store staff were blatant ignorant so & so people - I often pondered whether a life in sales was their true calling!!
There were one or two that were genuinely helpful and gave sound advice, but again, price wise, not a chance I'd be buying from them.

It's the same with Currys - their online prices are cheaper than instore prices. Instore prices won't be price matched to their own online price, BUT you can order online and pick up from store!!!
So much so a colleague at work wanted a TV, reserved it online and then asked the store to do it for the lower price (and thus increase their store sales figures). The manager refused, so he pulled out his reservation number instead and said well I'll just pick this up instead!
Poor poor customer service I say - for the sake of £15 the store lost out on a sale, and in the future when Currys goes under, they will look at store sales to see which stores go first (just like they did with Jessops and other high street shops that went under).
