Pat, dont forget YouTube, I am sure FroKnowsPhoto has something on the 7100.
Here is some more info:

With faster cards, things will only get better.
Not that much on it yet on Youtube, well at least when it comes to settings. As for "FRO", he's had a D7100 for a while now still waiting to hear what he has to say about it has not put anything out yet.
In "FRO'S" last RAW talk he did make a small comment in a displeased voice about the "choking buffer"
Corey (AKA Faymous Media) did a youtube review on the D7100 and I would have to say his review is pretty "nuts on" and so are his sample photos.
I like to remind anyone thinking about buying this camera, the buffer issues we are talking about only apply to RAW images when in continues mode.
I bought this camera knowing about this issue, and as a RAW shooter it is something I will deal with, to get the quality of images I'm getting from this camera.
If you want a camera that has a better buffer and want the same quality or better images from it, your going to have to move into full frame, and spend $1000 more. Unless you want to move into the D600, but now I getting more off topic here and I'll stop.
Faster cards do help I have the Scan Disk Extreme Pro class 10 95mb a sec but even in full DX mode after a few seconds it doesn't totally choke but you can hear it slow down quite a bit.
Yes changing into DX crop mode it going to speed up things because your dropping from 24mp to 16mp, less information to write to the buffer. I bought a camera with 24mp and I want to use them all the time, I don't like using crop mode unless I need a little more reach.
As for software update, I don't think that is going to fix the problem. I think the issues lies within the buffer itself. I think if Nikon does come out with a fix it's going to be something along the lines of over clocking your computer. It might solve the issue and make it faster but it is also going to generate heat, and that's not good if you overheat your sensor. If a hack came out of Green Lantern, I would even hesitate on installing it just for the same reason. I'm sure the people at Green Lantern are very good at what they do, how ever I'm sure this would void your warranty with Nikon and then you be left with $1200 paperweight if something went wrong.
I don't understand this "buffer issue" Rocky is complaining about it and he hasn't even tried his 7100 out yet. I shoot wildlife especially birds with a D7000 same buffer, you know what folks it's not been a problem. My D4 is faster and impossible to choke the buffer however it's cost is 4x more too.
A new firmware update can indeed increase the burst rate for raw files. Canon did it with the 7D:Faster cards do help I have the Scan Disk Extreme Pro class 10 95mb a sec but even in full DX mode after a few seconds it doesn't totally choke but you can hear it slow down quite a bit.

Sambr does have a point when he brings up the D7000, for it had the same buffer issue with raw files. I think we all have to get over it and improvise and adapt. Get faster sd cards and turn off unneeded in-camera processing - nikon even suggests this in the manual. Yes, i read it.
If it were I - body only- congrats Glenn the D7100 is a classic already.

I would choose body only Sam. I was working on a part time gig in our local store and I was demonstrating CLS and using the other flash (on camera) as a slave. I didn't buy any since I have no use for another body (yet). Lol!![]()
