Interesting but no cigar for me. I wouldn't live long enough or earn enough to afford one.

You and me both put together probably...

What is a D4X gonna cost?

To take on Phase One you are going to have to get away from 24 X 36...they ain't gonna do that before stringing folks out so they can squeeze the lemon for all it is worth.

24 X 36 is so old hat...like film...OBSOLETE!!! Come on camera manfacturers we live in the 20th century you gonna let the phone barons take everyone's coin???

Just my opinion...

D4x will most likely be a 48.3 mp sensor, 7 FPS burst and dynamic range that will make most drool.

However, the D800E takes on medium format hard enough already. You get 90% of the quality, and dynamic range. 10x better lowlight, 10x more lenses, and 1/10th of the price. What more could be wanted?

OK what about all this "all pixels are not created equal" stuff then that they talk about about when comparing DX to FX...from what I see folks saying in regard to DX versus FX it seems like everyone says "Oh FX cameras are way superior to DX cameras the sensor is bigger and better." So how can it be that a 36 MP FX sensor is 90% of a MF digital sensor? Sounds fishy like marketing ploys to me.

Corey have you ever shot with one of the Hassy's? (I do not believe anything I read and only half of what I see) Where do you get this 90% of the quality figure? 10X better lowlight really? I thought bigger sensor meant better lowlight performance? You read this on the net or in a magazine?

Why do the most hotdog pro's in the world use the bigger than 24 X 36 digital formats? The photojournalist guys still use 35mm which is easy to see why but why do Vogue, Playboy, and GQ photographers use the big format?

Chris Nichols did a D800E vs HD40 head to head comparison, and it demonstrates how the HD40 is better, but marginally. Not worth $22k more if you ask me.

As far as shooting with one, no. I have personally worked with photographers in correspondence with Inked magazine. Those guys shoot on 1dx, and D4's, a couple have D800E's, hell even a few still have D3's! Dont be fooled into believing everyone who shoots magazines is medium format.

EDIT: Chris Nichols also did a comparison between the Pentax medium format camera against the D800E and there was literally no difference! Also try shooting a wedding or a birthday party with a medium format camera, you will get images that look like chop suey!

The AF system and tracking systems in medium format are literally good for poses, and modeling only. Wedding photographers would never entertain the idea of medium format.

When the 800 first came out the mantra was we are encroaching on MF territory...now it is we are 90% there? Really?

It may be true I do not know for sure...I am going to poke around at the issue and see what I can find out though. Hell I probably couldn't even afford to rent a Phase one for a day for that matter. :)

What I do know is that with film a good MF camera will smooth smoke a good 35mm camera and that makes sense to me at least.

They are all intended for different uses. If you use a MF camera for a wedding i would be surprised if 1 out of 100 photos were in focus.

One simple answer Jeff, because the hotdog pros work in the STUDIO. When you work in a studio environment, you don't have to carry the stuff with you, you can use big mother tripod, huge powerful flash systems. 35mm was invented for portability and journalists. Try carrying a hasselblad with 3 or 4 lenses for a week. You will wish for something lighter or you'll hire an assistant to carry it for you. I know, I've been there before in another life.

We can all drool all we want, spend all the money you can on cameras, if you're stuck home with them because you forgot to keep money for gaz to get to your shots, then it's all worthless. Better to have less of a camera and to travel to take pictures than to have the best and most expensive just to look at it on your desk.

Sorry about my opinion, but don't forget what cameras are for, taking pictures. If you get paid huge money and you need to print huge billboards, then you need the most expensive cameras, otherwise, use what you've got and develop an eye for the light. You will learn whatever camera you use.

This is a fun way to shoot a dance floor for a wedding reception.

Just wish I could find something longer.

Hey Corey, can we get a thread going for the next challenge? I'm going tomorrow to try to get a shot, after that I'm not going to have internet access till Monday night or Tuesday morning. Hopefully I can get something turned in for the contest by Friday night if not I'm out. That also means I'm not going to make the spreecast Sunday evening. Good luck everyone.
Thanks Corey

I know the feeling Rocky. I have not been rained out yet, but according the to forecast for Sunday I'm going to be. If it doesn't rain I'm going to have clouds all day.

I have a small window today that I'm going to have to work with it looks like, but I already know I'm going to feel rushed because of time. No excuses just the facts.

Hard to shoot Summer when Mother Nature is still showing us April.

Its funny too, when he said "Summer", I said YES! I knew I had this event I could shoot Friday that would be perfect for the theme.. (does NOT mean I could get a killer photo). Then I found out the event was yesterday and it was a wash out.. We will see if I can sneak in something to at least submit but it is not looking good :(

And that is ok too... it has been a good run, did good the last challenge and learned alot in the first even if I did not score well. Good Luck Rick... I hope you can catch a break... (and I will still be looking also!)
