Once again: When you look through the viewfinder and adjust the aperture ring (NOT using the camera's control.... the actual ring on then lens!!!!!!), does the brightness of the viewfinder change?
Both set to ISO 400 and speed 1/10. Sorry for the lack of creativity!

Well... you were supposed to take real pictures.... not the inside of a lens cap...![]()
Then there is definitely a mechanical issue. Try the lens on someone else's camera and see what it does. If the problem persists on their camera, it's the lens.
Yup. I've asked a friend to lend me a lens; I hope that solves it.
