2a. Idols in making. The basic clay work is done. Now they are finishing the clay work, adding details and started painting base coat. Note the detailed designs on some idols. These are the templates for adding ornaments and bass relief pieces.

24MP DX sensor is a lot of details. This is where the lense resolution and technique start showing. On the whole I find that the new kit 18-55 and the 35mmDX are upto the sensor in resolution.

Things are speeding up, as the Puja approaches. Navaratri - nine days of abstention starts tomorrow, and puja six days later, hence the idols have to be ready and delivered before that.

2. Supports

Each composite Idol group is supported by a frame. The utility is two fold
a) It holds the group together
b) Eases transportation from the fabrication to the Pandal, and then from Pandal to immersion Ghat.

4a. Faces - Mahisasur

What fascinates me is the expression the artisan puts on the face. In general Durga is portrayed with a serene expression, but Mahisasur's expression depends on what the artisan wants it to be. Here are examples of Mahisasur's face

2a. Idols - Composite

There are two styles of display. Composite where Durga & Mahisasur, Kartik and Ganesha are in one large structure. This is favoured by some due to its compact nature.

2b. Idols - individual.

Some like the idols to be separate. The advantages are that they are lighter, hence easier to transport and immerse. They can also be displayed spread out, where the "Mandap" is wide enough.

Note the various expressions the artisans have given the idols and the different clothing.
