Dawg Pics' New Adventures of the D500 (and maybe the D300)

Yet another reminder why I'm grateful for where we live. We got the rain, but the severe stuff stayed well clear. We were walking at the lake when this storm rolled in.

Arlington seems to be in a spot where systems go north or south of us. Most of what happened here was wind and a drop in temps. North of us got the 3 inch hail. We recently got a new roof, we don't need no stinking hail.

Gotta be careful when shooting in those conditions! :hurt:

No!!! She needs to come to Pennsylvania where we seem to be eternally stuck in winter! Our temps are still going below freezing at night. :( I'm wondering how many blossoms won't open due to effects from frost. Last year I waited and waited to photograph my church's magnolia trees only to have the buds fall off without ever opening. This year the buds are larger (2" vs. 1" last year), but it remains to be seen whether or not they will bloom.

I don't get along with cold weather. I grew up in subtropical conditions in south Louisiana. It gets below freezing there, and we get some snow now and then, but obviously nothing like up in the northeast. I get SAD if it is overcast for a long time. I need sun.

Luckily, we only had some wind and temps that dropped. Shorts one day, and a jacket the next, which is typical for Texas this time of year. Most of the bad stuff was north of me. Thank goodness.

I took several of these images because the lighting was so interesting, but it faded fast due to the rotation of the Earth and all that. The clouds started out with stripes.

Hey all,
I haven't posted in a while because I have had a lot going on. We relocated to southern California this month. I met @Roy1961. He was nice enough to meet me at Lake Elsinore, and he offered to let me tag along with him to shoot some birds. I am grateful to already know somebody so nice who lives nearby.

Image is of the haze from the Idyllwild fire as seen from the Elsinore lookout on the Ortega Hwy.

EDIT: I am continuing with my bird count in California. So we now have D500's Most Excellent Adventure.

I went to the Midsummer Scream Halloween convention in Long Beach.
I wanted to do a series like this, but it didn't work out for me. I am very happy with the D500's performance in the dark part of the convention hall.

Shooting with @Roy1961 at San Jacinto.

#25 Black Phoebe (new to me and posted in crappy photos)

#26 Barn Owl (new to me)
This was the best shot I could get. When I got closer I lost elevation, so the tall grass was an issue. Anyway, a shot for posterity.

#27 Black-Necked Stilts (new to me)
