You're right, I'm just across the street from the end of the runway and it's extremely loud there. I can't understand how these people living in their boats here can stand the noise.

Dave, I've got to say that I've always loved your photography, but I am noticing a difference in the weeks since you downloaded the Nik suite. Shots like the Embarcadero Marina are really popping more - at least to my eye. Do you find yourself working differently since you got them? Regardless, whatever you're doing is working.
As a matter of fact, yes. But more than just Nik. Over the past couple of weeks I've been giving myself a complete crash course in Photoshop and am attempting to rise to the level of assistant Photoshop guru
. So with all my PS training under my belt, the new Nik Complete fits very well into my new work flow. In the past I just assumed PS was more for pixels and LR was for the entire image but I see now I couldn't have been more mistaken. PS is by far the more powerful editing tool for images than LR ever could be. In fact, it's now to the point that I use LR as a catalogue program, similar to Bridge, and do the bulk of my editing in PS/Nik. Once you really understand what PS had to offer you no longer get that warm, fuzzy feeling from LR like you used to.So thanks, Jake, it's really nice to hear that you're noticing a difference in my output. Makes me think I'm on the right track.

I am amazed at what can be done by someone who knows Photoshop well. My daughter has a degree in commercial art and has extensive training in PS. She can do things in Photoshop that just defies imagination. My push lately has been learning Actions and scrips. The latest I have been playing with is a scrip that put a frame around a photo and then add the exif in the bottom border. It does that in a couple of clicks. Just gives a nice finished look to a photo for the web. Also a action that puts your copyright on the print with a single click is a nice time saver.

Maybe you could share these few clicks with your friends…
The Watermark action is one I just recorded in Photoshop. That is an easy thing to do. You just record the action by going through all the steps. Then stop the recording. Then anytime you want you just play the action. I will have to write all that up and put it in the software section.
The frame script in a little more involved. It is free one I downloaded and installed. Here is the file. you can google how to install a script in PS

Funny, but I'm headed in the same direction. After the Kelby training I joined NAPP and have been cruising through their training videos. So many powerful things to do in PS. I'm heading back to shots I did my first year with the D7000 and totally revisiting the edits. I'm actually glad I never really did anything with my Yosemite and California pics from 2011 as I think I can only now do them justice.
