Did you guys test the liveview with the exposure preview enabled?

I only discovered it today (the downside of not reading the manual) and it'll be darn handy for my landscape and night shots. If they now would add clipping to it, it be close to perfect.

There's a histogram too but that wasn't obvious to find even with the manual.

I guess I got all I need now. No more shoot-check-tweak.

Congrats, BTW, I have an extra Nikon hot shoe cover if you want it! :) (forgot to give it to the guy that bought my D610).

Thank you, Rick, I appreciate the offer. Fortunately, though, I found a place online that sells hot shoe covers at a discount when you buy in bulk so, what with the price break and what not, I bought 3,500 of them. The plan is to keep a candy dish on the coffee table in my living room filled with them for when guests come over.

I know... Genius, right?!

Well I've been considering going full frame for some time now and I mean a looooong time. I was tempted when the D600 came out but it just didn't seem to be the camera for me. Then the oil spot issue broke and I watched one of our own struggle with getting the issue so much as acknowledged, much less repaired, by Nikon. That saga turned me away from the D600 for good. Then the D610 came along and I was, once again, sorely tempted. Still, something about it seemed off to me and I just wasn't feeling the love. My D7100 was rocking my world and I was able to ignore the FF "itch" for a little longer still.

Then those bastards at Nikon start leaking rumors of the D750. I followed the news closely and it seemed bad. Very bad... It was starting to sound like this could be the "it" camera for me. Then the reviews stared pouring in and I knew I was done for and that it was only a matter of time. The D750 appeared to be The Camera I Could Stick With For a Long Time; if Master at None the D750 was sounding like a real "Jack of All Trades" sort of rig, which really is just what I wanted. I haven't found my "voice" as a photographer so I don't want anything too subject-specific. Then I stumbled across an online deal I couldn't resist and, well... The FedEx man stopped by my place yesterday and I'm officially the proud owner of a brand new Nikon D750. I've updated some of the Menu settings but I haven't even taken her out for her maiden voyage yet. She's wearing an 85mm f/1.8G at the moment and I have a battery grip on order.

Next stop, I think, will be the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC to complement my small (but mighty!) arsenal of primes and with that I should be good to go.

....

mind if i ask where you got this deal? i've seen basically the same price ($229x) in at least 3 different places (Amazon, BH, BestBuy)

Sorry, for the delay...

I bought grey market from Get It Digital.com and then got a three year warranty from Square Trade that covers just about everything imaginable, including "Impact Damage"; Nikon's favorite excuse for not repairing a camera still under warranty. Square Trade, on the other hand, does exactly what they say they will and with zero hassles.

Speaking of zero hassles, Get It Digital was awesome to deal with. They were very professional over the phone when I spoke with them and the transaction was smooth as could be. They did try to do a little up-selling while they had me on the phone, but I can't fault them for that. I politely declined and that was that.

All said and done I came out about $300 ahead on the deal and, quite frankly, I have a better warranty should I ever need it.

thx.. that may help me save a few hundred $'s. though i am a bit wary of the 'grey market' aspect. other people have complained about defective cameras, etc

I can certainly understand if you're not comfortable buying gray market, but having the USA warranty doesn't do anything to lessen your odds of getting a "lemon"; it just costs you more up-front and means you're at the mercy of Nikon to make repairs.

It's a personal decision thing and I wish you good luck with whatever you decide... I'm LOVING my D750!!

took the plunge.. ordered it from Amazon for $2297 which included a DSLR backpack, a 60" tripod and a 32G memory card. on its way here right now - should arrive on Mon. seems everything i buy these days comes with a cleaning kit, a camera bag or both. gonna have to figure out a use for my other 2 bags - maybe stick some accessories in there. like all those cleaning kits. :)

Congrats! Looks like you're jumping out of a horse and buggy and into a Formula 1 racer...

The bag is actually not bad! I have one and I while I use a different bag for day-to-day use, the Amazon Basics bag is well made, has served me well and I absolutely plan on keeping it. Right now I use it for overflow storage (stuff I don't need in my everyday carry) or when I'm trekking and I just don't want to have to worry about my bag. Amazon practically gives them away for $30.
