I have no respect for people who sit on their ass and expect others to provide for their needs or wants.

Even if I think this is a exaggeration as reaction on the previous statement, since I`m reading "Atlas Shrugged" for the moment I need to support.

It seems odd, to me, to congratulate someone on a purchase. Congratulations are for an achievement. You may as well say "Wow, good job getting all that money together to spend!" and congratulate his career or investment choices. ... Then again, in America, buying is mandatory, as is celebrating your purchase. ... I'm more curious as to what prompted the purchase... and good luck with the camera.
Sounds like someone pissed in your Cheerios this morning...

Muchos congratulations! Sounds like a very good buy. We wanna see them images now!

Do you have a plan for what you wanna shoot? Since you are talking about 85 and 70-200 mm zoom? Or are your primes filling up the rest of the spectrum?
Currently I have three FX prime lenses; a 35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.8 and the 85mm f/1.8G all of which I couldn't do without. I used to think I was a landscape photographer but I'm getting drawn more into stills and portraiture so I'm thinking my current prime lenses will be all I need for now. A medium-range zoom like the 70-200mm may be in my future, but I'm in no hurry. The itch to go out and shoot right this second is killing me but I'm stuck at my job right now and probably won't be able to do any real shooting before the weekend. Stay tuned though... Images to follow.

It was.

"Atlas Shrugged" is one of my all-time favorite novels. "The Fountainhead" is almost as good.

If you are interested in landscape, you've GOT to get something wider than 35mm. :encouragement: I'll be happy to spend your money for you. :victorious:

Ah, then you are all set :-D I think the 35mm are absolutely awesome on a full frame - wide but still very realistic. But since the head of chief in the photography section in one of our biggest news papers (I was so lucky to meet him at a photography course) told me to use the 50mm way more, I really try.

There is just something about 35mm.... cant wait to see your images and hear how you like the new camera :) But of course, better to wait until weekend, so you got prober time for trying it out.

You know, it's funny because when I saw the naked HS, I *was* a little miffed... It just seems like such a trifle to overlook but I don't want to ignite THAT firestorm of controversy; as I'm sure you don't, either. :D

Thank you!! And that is exactly my point, and my reason for questioning it in the first place.

Congrats on the D750. I'm in your neck of the woods on business for another 12 hours before I head back and I would have loved to have had both my D750 and a car to drive around in this visit. Alas, I've been in meetings from 8 til 6 and then at group dinners every night. Next time I'm out we'll need to meet up at Stone and compare notes. ;)

Not sure what you did that got you sent to the Escondido area but it must have been reeeeally bad... lol.

Whatever. Again, good luck with the camera.

What would you say? People also congratulates at every birthday - because you managed to stay alive? Because your mother did all the hard work once? It's just a... good for you, glad to hear, kind of word (imo) :)

It's no longer worth going into. I'm pretty sure it never was.

My company has a large facility in RB, so while not Escondido it's close. Convinced the group to do dinner at Urge one night, so I got my fill of great local brews. I get there about once every 18-24 months. Should be more often, but they always cut funding for group meetings. This is the first time I've seen the people I work with since July 2011 when we had our last group meeting (we're all remote) - some of them I met for the first time.

Ahhh... RB. That makes a lot more sense. I lived in RB for a couple years but I keep moving north the longer I live in Cali... And you've found Urge, so you're covered!

Today I discovered a nifty little feature called Highlight Weighted Metering on my D750 and... and...

*head explodes*

That was a surprise for me too. I have been toying with it in landscape and night shots but still haven't found the best way to apply it. It's probably more intended for event shots.
I used it yesterday shooting landscapes and closeups and it does a nice job. If I wanted to be 100% certain there was ZERO clipping I had to use Exposure Comp, because the Highlight Weighted metering did allow the smallest amount of clipping to occur. Still, it's good enough I configured a button on the body for it.

I tried it at night but since many of my shots quickly pass the 30s shutter, it no longer makes any difference. I also tried it on sunsets and while it does do better, I still lost about 1 or 2EV of the scene. That's evidently not the meters fault, the DR is just too wide. I'm going to get a graduated ND filter to make the cam grab that last part. Then at 100 ISO it should be able to grab 16.5EV (after post) which is more than I usually need. If needed I could even up that with another two by compensating.

Still, the 14.5 the cam standard grabs makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
