D600 worse than ever

@BackdoorHippie if I remember correctly, someone mentioned having a friend who works for Nikon Canada who confirmed they (the Canada division) was installing the shutters from the D610 into the D600's that were sent in for the oil/dust problem.

It was me that heard that from a Nikon rep. So, in a way, it is hearsay. What I was told is that the problem with the shutter supplier/manufacturer was solved when the last batch of D600 were produced. So, I don't know, but it could have happened that Nikon supplied replacement shutters that were defective for a while to their outside (US, Europe, Canada) subsidiaries. I know that some of you have had huge problems with this model, but I "think" not all units were affected. As I can only speak for myself, I can agree that I got dust (more than usual) when I was in Vietnam (first 3,600 shots), but after cleaning the sensor, the problem has completely disappeared. My 600 is now as clean as my 7000 or 700. I guess I must have been lucky. Such things happen when you lead a good life :)

Last time I sent my camera in to nikon... it was just for an authorized checkup since warranty was about ready to expire. There was nothing wrong with shutter, occasional dust but nothing spectacular and no oil. Nikon said the shutter was replace to bring camera up to spec. Shot a few shots... dust all over the place and smudges on the sensor. Sent it back... nikon said they replaced the shutter again, to bring the camera up to nikon spec, but said that there was nothing wrong with the camera. After extensive dialog... I got the camera back with yet another shutter that really didn't need to be replaced the second time. The first time, shutter replacement was due to a malfunction in the curtain... got a good shutter with no dusting on that repair. I felt lucky since a lot of people were having problems It was my fault was sending it in for a check up. I should have used the shop in Portland instead of Nikon Service Facility in Los Angeles. But finally, I got a good camera again... now whether or not they used a d610 shutter or not... how would I know?
Nikon won't admit anything, nor are they willing to work with someone on a problem. After this fiasco, I'm pretty much done with Nikon customer service. I'll buy Nikon... but I'll send it to somewhere else to get fixed.

Thats just sad, the company's service centres should be the best places to have a product fixed. Sending it to other repair shops would result in extra cost (during warranty period). but yes i agree with you.

So just an update. As you know Nikon notified me on December 5th that I would be getting a refund. It's now the 20th and they still haven't processed it. I called today and they said they are waiting for accounts payable to process it. I told them that I purchased the replacement the next day and $2k is a fair amount of money to be screwing around with. I'll update again if/when I ever get the actual refund.

They reimbursed a service charge for me once... Took 20 days. They all say there is a 15 day minimum for reimbursements

They initially said that I'd have it within two weeks. It's a good thing I called because they had no clue what has happening with it.

Good luck. I've lost all confidence and respect for nikon service. They just aren't completely honest most of the time. To me...'it's almost as if they put things off just long enough to see if the customer will forget about it. And they lie to the customer.

They just e-mailed me and told me that they mailed the check today. It seems to me that customer service is prompt as long as you call and baby-sit them.

I was told it would take 2 weeks to process my refund for the Nikon rep at the corporate office to have the check in her hand. However, I received my refund check in 10 days. Vector, sorry to hear about your difficulties. Hope your credit card bill isn't due immediately!

I finally got the check today, it took 3 weeks. I can now officially close the D600 chapter in my life. Let's hope the D610 is drama free!

Glad to hear you received the refund! Now you can breathe a sigh of relief! Have you had a chance to try out your D610 yet?

good news :)
let me know hows the D610.

I have shot a bit with it, but nothing on a "pro" level yet. Once the holidays are over I plan on taking a few quick trips to put it through its paces. Right now I'm still editing photos from the D600 and enjoying all of the dust spots that have to be cloned out!
