The nice thing about the "S" version is that it has the SD card slot ,so I don't have to buy a CF card reader to download pictures to my iMac.The camera I was talking about is just the body and whatever else came in the original box, battery , charger etc.

If she is well maintained and treated 38K is nothing on a 300s.

Talk it down a few bucks and go for it.....great camera. I would like to upgrade to a mint D300s myself for the extra slot among other reasons. Still a super piece of kit!

Thanks for the advice ,let ya know how it turns out .

Good luck @Redtail55 and please post some pics when you get it.

If you have to get cheap glass to start out grab a used kit pair 18-55 AF VR and 55-200 AF VR. I am shocked at how good they are on the D300 and despite purchasing much better lenses subsequently I still often walk around with the D300 and the kit pair. Add a cheap Nikon 50 f/1.4 AF D and you will be able to cover more situations than you might think very nicely.

I have a 70-300 mm AF-S VR and a 50mm 1.8G in my bag ready to go !

Good start. For a hundred bucks you can pick up a nice 18-55VR lens for those landscape shots.
Once you get some practice, then we'll advise you on future lens purchases.:excitement:

We love spending other peoples money around here.;)

I got one of those too! LOL >It came with the D3200 I have but I'm thinking of selling it with the camera instead of just trying to sell the body only .

strong recco you don't do that. If it is a good sharp copy it will be super sharp on D300s. I fully expected my kit lenses to be junk as I am a huge lens snob.

they are both outstanding. Do not sell until you test shoot on new camera.

I figured it'd be easier to sell a camera with a lens to a prospective buyer . Have to ask the question though ; how do I know that my 18-55mm is sharp ? , is there a test I could do ?

Keep your 18-55. It's a great lens on the D300! And *sigh*...no, the D300s is NOT too old! It's still an amazing camera. If you like, I can send you the Setup Guide for the D300s. You can set up the 4 different banks in the camera for different shooting scenarios. Just need your email address in a PM so I can send it to you (it's in PDF format).

So now I'll have to decide on what to do with my D3200 as I'm sure once I get playing with the D300 I'll want to sell it off !

So now I have to get out there and shoot some photos ! It feels perfect in my hand with every button located exactly where it should be . I'll have to go through all the menu items and update the settings to how I like the colours and white balance .
