So now I have to get out there and shoot some photos ! It feels perfect in my hand with every button located exactly where it should be . I'll have to go through all the menu items and update the settings to how I like the colours and white balance .

PM @fotojack and he'll send you a setup guide by e-mail in PDF format. Good luck. I still miss my D300. Great camera.

The below will link you to the others in the D300 series, most excellent, all you need.

The owners manual is avail on nikon.com for download free

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFRATixZ3fY

I use Nikon capture NX-D and shoot RAW only with both Nikons. NX-D emulates the in camera JPEG setting for colour, wb etc or you can go full manual processing on each value. I use it with Picasa which it seemlessly integrates with. Best part = free downloads. I am a huge fan of free.

You can of course buy expensive software from vendors or keep doing what you are doing.

Again, good luck and post up some of your favs....you will love that camera absolutely blows away what you have been using for handling and features especially AF! It is Pro!

Not backup buddy, as a combo to go with your D7100! The FF will open a whole new door for your type of shooting my friend and would likely be your goto Nikon! :D

The D700 has done that for me, and I'm not even the big wide angle shooter you are! :D

Kind of wanting a FF as a backup for Emmylou. :D

I understand Bill. I was making a funny. Seriously a FF would be a great addition to the 7100, as I'm getting better, (or at least think that I'm getting better) at my landscapes.

Lol I'm hoping to eventually pick up another D700 when they get cheaper, so I'm loving full frame! Lol :D

I think a D600 or D610 is a sweet kit in combo with a D7100.

Prices are plummeting too.

IMHO of course.....

Back on topic I will have a D300s as an upgrade as soon as I see a dealeo like the @Redtail55 scored! I just passed up another D700 with 1000 clicks and 3 batteries MB-D10 grip boxed for $900. One pro FX and DX is all I need.....but want one of each....kit perfection for me!

Kinda overcast here today so not great for picture taking but I think I did alright for a first outing . Nailed a Eagle inflight but not a good picture overall but at least it's in focus ! The other pic is a upclose goose @ISO1600! _2750032.jpg_2750070.jpg

A few winter snaps with D300 /kit zoom

Didn't feel it important enough to start a thread so I though I would just tag on here....a few winter scene pics from this AM taken during running pre blizzard errands.

Pics either 55-200 AF-S VR or 18-55 VR with D300 Nikon capture NX-D slight cropping and cloudy saturation vs. recorded standard value.

We have a blizzard warning for late this afternoon thru Monday AM so I fully expect my mailbox will disappear.....

One more from Yawgoo Valley Ski Area, best conditions in history of the area and at least 12" more natural OTW! Obviously super challenging midday flat light applied here in all these pics.....

Indeed, yet to find a good reason to retire this.camera. Any upgrade, it would be FX. While D7000 & D7100 look attractive, I am not sure of.SD card..other then better high iso performance, which I believe FX Will do better, still thinking.

The 7000 series of cameras have a lot going for them and should not be sold short. Of course fx might be a step up but I am not yet convinced that it is worth the price and the D300 will always be a great camera until it finally wears out.

For me D300 and D700 is perfect kit, pretty much handle identical......

Prices on D700 still not dropping below D7100 from what I can see though.

I think you have spoken for many with the same situation. For.me, it is about going FX or stay on dx. The main reason for considering FX is low light ability and the only shortfall for my D300.

I read many reviews that d7100 is great if not equvilent to d610 or d600 for low light. I tested both but couldn't feel any different. Anyone out there care to share?

As a lot of you might know, I bought the D300 and her big sister the D700! The D700 is just like the D300 but better and with much better low light abilities! I love mine and will be buying another D700 asap! :)
