I could say a lot of things - and I surprised myself for not doing so. Old age I guess. However I will say this. This past June my wife Coral & I went to Ottawa Ontario on a part business & work vacation. The "must do" place to visit was the National Art Gallery"( Coral is a fanatic art lover) Well I was totally awed at the art, sculptures etc that was on display there. We spent 2 days and still didn't see it all. My point is some art, I didn't understand or even like, however I respected the artist's point of view because it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Cheers

I have been accused of many things in my lifetime but diplomacy has never been one of them. Your response to an uninvited critique can only be viewed as an excellent example of CLASS.
Way to go Bubba!

Constructive Criticism can be a great thing if done correctly but to insult that person AND the other people who commented is way out of line.

And I am surprised that no one has ever accused you of being diplomatic.

I shoot many things over and over again. There is a dam at the foot of the hill that I live on that I shoot all the time. I use it as a reference point. New equipment, new software and new ideas so it give me a reference to see the difference in what I can do.

@Kodiak I'm addressing this because of the statements in bold.

I hesitated for sometime before I expressed my irritation, sorry Sam if it's
your post that triggered my reaction, it could have been any other! I knew
very well that my statement was bold but it was my reaction.

First of all, PHOTOGRAPHY IS SUBJECTIVE. It's very clear that your style (capture and rendition) is very different from many here. Just because Sam's rendition (or anybody else's, for that matter) isn't your so-called "natural rendition" does not mean it isn't good or valuable or that those of us who liked it should be "chastised."

"What, I think, is even less pleasant is that advanced forum members as well as
far less advanced ones (these may be forgiven) are acclaiming this as if it was
your "best of…" I know you have done much better then this!"

Secondly, Sam did NOT post this in the critique section so even though he is always gracious about peoples' opinions, you were out of line to provide a critique.

I realize now that it was, technically, not in the critique area. For this, I will
recognize the faux-pas.

But before my reply, 10 other replies were very generously in the other direction,
This is what troubles me, the 10 replies were critiques! Positive but they were!

As I am writing this, Pat just posted:
I enjoy, even when it is not quite there... cuz I will go back and try again!

How could anyone go back and try again when he/she is told:
• Very pretty...
• Very nice. Very peaceful.
• Yeah Sam the first pic is really amazing..
• Not a bad looking place to call home.
• Wow, very nice Sam!
• Beautiful photography and clicks.
• Very nice Sam
• Just beautiful, Sam, especially the first. Really well done on these captures!
• That first shot is awesome! I'm loving it! What a great scenery!
• These both look like they coud be post cards. Great shots!

"Don't get me wrong: the shot is good, very good but the rendition not so." …were my words!!"
Where is the insult? I think it is an honest opinion and rather "gentle terms" were used!

There are some threads where the poster has a direction that I neither understand
nor like. I visit them and follow the evolution of the spreads. I DO NOT HAVE TO
INTERVENE! I cannot intervene simply because I am not connected! Any intervention
from my part would be dishonest and disrespectful simply because I am not connected!

Finally, you say you want to be more involved here, then try to get off your "high horse" . . . you are NOT the answer to everyone's problem and YOUR style is not the right style for everyone, just as your recommendations are not the only ones or the best. Stop insisting that your way is the best way.

This is not the first post where you insult other members, and I don't believe it's for a lack of "command of the English language."

My purpose was, is and can't be to insult anybody. If I did, …I was not aware of
that. This is not an excuse but an explanation. I have to work in three languages
and sometimes it's easy to loose your latin!

Nobody hates you. What this forum is NOT about is an "elitist" attitude. It IS about learning and supporting each other, especially when we try something new.

Right! …but I do not believe any of the members would be helped, after investing honest
money for gear and honest time for the study, by not receiving back the same honesty in return.

For now, we were my boys and I shooting a cabaret (german definition of it) and I will
have to spend the larger part of the night going through the 961 pictures of it. They are
already in bed, so it's time for me to go to work.

I was you all a good night!

Already in Bed?? You should have made them stay up with that many pictures to go through... Good luck on that, I have trouble getting through 75 - 100, let alone 900+

@ Kodiak Why do you think you need to "intervene?" Who are you to decide what requires "intervention?" As I have said before, several of us are multi-lingual, and English is not the first language of every user here. Yet, they do no respond in a rude manner and you have used the "several languages" excuse far too often and especially when it's convenient.

The problem is not your "command of language" but your attitude. The fact that you feel it is necessary to intervene in any photographer's vision and rendition is offensive in and of itself, especially when not asked. Add to that, the insult of admonishing anyone who posted something kind or positive and go to the trouble of listing each individually. It doesn't make you "brave, direct or even honest", but simply demonstrates rude behavior and a self-serving attitude of arrogance.

There is a frequently used American expression that I think fits quite well: "You are not the boss of me." You STILL don't understand the spirit of this forum. The fact that you saw NOTHING inappropriate in your responses attests to your attitude of self-righteousness --the whole world is wrong unless they see it your way. Please note that I am referring to your BEHAVIOR and am NOT calling you any names.

You, Kodiak, had a chance to set this right, but instead, you chose a soliloquy to justify your initial post. It's obvious you don't get it and before we get bogged down in the ridiculous, I'm closing the thread.

@Sambr Sorry, Sam. I'm requesting that you repost this photo in a new thread along with your other HDR photos so that the rest can appreciate it.
