I read that thread and found it somewhat weird that he was disagreeing with such comments. Personally, i feel the "disagree" button is silly and infantile. Seriously, if you don't agree with someone, just say so in a polite manner. No need for a silly button. What have we come to :disturbed:

Sorry, AC, but after that post... I couldn't stop my hand before I clicked it!!! LOL

Everyone has issues with forums. Either they don't like certain members or they dislike how the board is run. I myself used to be much more "into" this board but the heavy-handed moderation made me pull back nearly entirely.

If not "heavy -handed" (what ever you mean by this, it's just a personal feeling) I think much more members are out of this forum already. It is not every time easy to moderate a forum, such Referees at a soccer game. The make a decision to keep a game running and so do the moderators here, keep the forum running.
Moderators have to look of the overall performance on a board not just take care of a single posting or a single member. And we are all adults, I guess, and we can decide between personal handling or a forum interests moderated handling.

BTW, if i have some problems with a member, I will just ignore his posting. I like the forum and the members on it. Sometimes a buy a cake which have some raisin in it. No, I don't like raisin that much but I like the cake how it is made, how it tastes, etc. So the raisin are often as left over in my plate. hey don't bother em and I don't bother them.

And if ther too much raisin left, maybe than I will stop buying this kind of cake or I am looking for a new bakery. So the baker and his helpers are looking for the cake I like, and it i i n there hands selling cake and keeping customers.

Maybe the admin and the moderators are baker? *LOL*

I'm with you on the raisins :). Maybe ask them to bake one without? :)

Maybe replace the "Disagree" button with "you've hurt my feelings"? Disagree is such a harsh word. It seems to be a common issue that not everyone will be happy with what is said or done on a forum. If we are heavy handed we are too controlling. If we let things ride we are too easy going and not punitive enough. It's really a very fine line and we will not please everyone (this is beginning to remind me of work :)).

There are no raisins in my cake Michael. Just rainbows, unicorns, and bunnies.

It just makes me laugh. I have had people come on and insult me, Be sarcastic to me and judge the way I take pictures. I say, "So what"! Most of the time they leave. I bite my tongue and turn the other cheek. I sometimes question of why the anger or insult. Otherwise, I just ignore them. They go away after a while. I'm still here and I don't plan to leave any time soon.

Why would it be infantile to disagree with someone? I think it's more infantile to get butt hurt over someones disagreement. I can see if someone is talking down to you or talks to you in a dikk head manner, then yea, I get pissed too.

Many times moderators may seem like they are being heavy handed but everyone may not see the nasty PM a member went another member or we got to a post and deleted it before anyone else had a chance to see it. I have seen some of the worst language written to and about other members. Calling another member the vilest names just because they disagreed with something that is so inconsequential. When I see that I will delete and let the member know that we will not stand for that. All the other members see sometimes is that member blasting us for being to heavy handed when they don't know the back story.

I have given a couple of infractions in the last couple of months for bad behavior. Some members do not realize they are being jerks and just letting them know sometimes works wonders. Sometimes they explode and get worse. Those are no longer with us.

The way I understood the comment is that the button itself is not liked...it isn't the fact that someone doesn't agree with another member. It can be hurtful to be on the receiving end when someone presses the 'dislike' button on your post. The feeling might range from being embarrassed to being hurt...or even cause a recipient to become angry. Personally I'd rather the button be removed because it may offend more than it helps. If the person who presses the dislike button DOESN'T explain the reason why, at times it can leave the recipient clueless.

It's okay to disagree with one another, but I prefer having those reasons explained. Sometimes the disagreement can be a simple misunderstanding. Other times it can result in the equivalent of a knock-down drag-out fight.

And as for moderation...some people may think this forum is over-moderated while others may feel there isn't enough moderation. Some people feel the mods should weigh in with comments while others think the mods should just delete offending posts...and then there are people who prefer no moderation at all. The thing is there isn't one set method of moderation that will work for every situation.

Perhaps you should read my comment again. it's not the act of disagreeing with someone that i am talking about. It's the fact that we have a button to do so, exempting use from explaining ourselves. It equates to someone leaving a note on your desk that says, "i disagree with you". Well, excuse me, but i wear big boy pants and am quite capable of having a mature discussion on why you disagree with me. I thought we were all adults around here... Perhaps not. Further, if you are going to explain your disagreement, it's futile -not to mention redundant - to hit the disagree button as well. But hey, what should i expect from an internet forum.

In my year or so here, I have never thought the moderators were heavy handed. If anything, this forum is mild compared to some of the automotive forums I've been on. One had a section named "Flamers" where you were encouraged to get into heated, and sometimes personal, discussions.

You have to understand that if you venture onto the interwebs, you might get beat up a little bit. I had a buddy back in the 70s who bought a CB radio. He was too shy to talk over it, so he'd just ask for a time check. Finally, a trucker told him to buy a watch. He never used the CB again. It's a cruel world out there and some do not suffer fools gladly.

I like the Disagree button. If I want to explain myself, I'll Reply with Quote. I like the Like button. If I want to expound, I'll Reply with Quote.

I feel that the like, disagree buttons are fine, after all we may not have time to explain why we pressed the button. If we wanted to explain, then we can explain it in a post.

People who cannot take criticism have either a very naive view of the world or extremely fragile ego. At times I wonder how they have come so far in this bad bad world. May be they are hermits who have just discovered the Internet!

OK jokes apart, to be hurt by some remarks (and I club "dislike button" with that), is in my opinion a bit immature. I met all sorts of people, including bosses who did not like me (or any one), clients who thought they knew all (then why come to us?), vendors in the street who will curse to no end if they cannot fleece you. I have also come across a lot of very friendly and sensible individuals, who will come to aid immaterial of the inconvenience. So I tend to ignore/forget the bad and cherish the good. That is the only way to remain sane in this dog-eat-dog society.

Do you own a Nikon camera?

Do you own a Nikon camera?

Is this a rhetorical question? I ask because it's quite obvious that i don't. On another note, what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Cameras are just sophisticated light boxes with a load of commodities stuffed into them. Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Olympus.... Who cares. They all do the same thing and that is, take photos. I suppose if i read between the lines, you are telling me that this is a Nikon forum. Yes, i know that being here longer then you. Don't forget that there is a non-Nikon camera section of the forum. If you don't like non-Nikon owners expressing their opinion, speak to Jdeg to get rid of the non-Nikon section or go join Gorf.

IT was a simple question, no point in getting your drawers in a wad.

I'm as cool as a cucumber. His simple question was leading to something; therefore, i answered accordingly. Simple.

I think if he had had any thing else to say he would have said it. I have wondered the same thing on several occasions. It is a fair question if someone has a Nikon camera on a Nikon forum. Yes, you are welcome here as is anyone with a love for cameras and photography but don't put words into someones mouth.
