Second entry.

When I saw the theme, “colorful bokeh”, I immediately thought of flowers. But then that was immediately followed by the thought that that's what everyone else would think of, and what appears to have been a correct anticipation that flowers would quickly become an overused cliché in this challenge.

Of course, it happens that flowers are about the most ubiquitous and common source of bright, varied colors; which is why they would become the overused cliché in this challenge.

Anyway, for my second entry, I broke down and used flowers. What I did a bit differently (although it's not an uncommon technique for me) is to put a flower-shaped cutout in front of my lens, to shape the bokeh.

Ancient non-AI 50mm ƒ1.4 lens, mounted on my D3200 (even though Nikon claims this combination won't work).
ƒ1.4, 1/4000 of a second, ISO 100

This one has some nice creamy bokeh. Background was some kind of flowering fruit tree, maybe a cherry blossom or apricot - not 100% sure
