Are we allowed to use the "NF" words?

As much as I want the D600, your odds of getting one in that raffle are increased by the amount of activity you put in on that forum, and I prefer to stick to this forum. Oh well I will eventually get a D600 someday! Lol :D

I get what they are doing, but that place will be full of meaningless post whoring for a while :)

I have petitioned for this in the past, but I'm going to repeat it again:

Pete needs the forum title, "Official Thread Derailer"

LOL

Hmm. Isn't the name Nikon trademarked, and if so, unless the forum is run directly by Nikon, wouldn't they have to get permission to use the name? Nikonites and Nikonians aren't using the name verbatim. I don't know much about trademarks though so am just wondering.

I was wondering the same thing. It gives the impression of being something "officially sponsored" by Nikon, which is misleading.

Some automakers have gone after forums using their trademark names, but it's few and far between. In most cases it's trivial and unless the site is negative against the brand, they usually let it go as it is FREE adversting for them :)

And then there's George Lucas of Star Wars fame who was notorious for filing lawsuits. You can't mention Han Solo without being sued.

Which reminds me, I owe George about $1,743 for this post.

I came here after going to another Nikon site. It might turn into a great forum in the future, but at this time there isn't enough active members, though the ones there were trying to be helpful. But when I found nikonites it was what I was looking for. I emediately found help and friends just as excited about photography as I am. I may never be a great photographer, but the enjoyment I get out of it seems to be shared by so many here, that I feel at home here with you all.
I've gotten so much encouragement and friendly advice, without being looked down on, that I can't see myself looking elsewhere for what I already have right here, and a small chance at a free D600 isn't going to change my mind. :)

Now if someone here wants to give away a free D600, you can put my name at the top of the list of those wanting a chance at it! Lol :D

I'm just going to say it. Nikonians is crap.

For a site that charges money for full forum access, you'd think they would at least have decent forum software.

Nikonians is a not-for-profit community. All capital generated through our operations (The Nikonians Community, The PhotoProShop and the Nikonians Academy) are reinvested to sustain our growth.

That's almost as much nonsense as Ken Rockwell's panhandling. Nikonians is definitely a for-profit community and while those membership dues do have some perks, they could get away with running promotions and giveaways without charging membership fees. Over half of the stuff that Nikonians makes you pay for are offered for free on other forums, including this one. Most of the rest of it is just fluff.

I don't think a lot of you realize how expensive it truly is to run a forum like this. How much work it is to get up and running, how long it takes to build and see some positive returns, just so that you're not paying out of pocket each month to keep it online. Nikonians clearly can't do it.

I typed out something similar earlier but my wi-fi connection went down just as I was going to send it. Great forum, great people. Friendliest place on the web. The site is laid out brilliantly; no need to search for what you are looking for. Plus, the system of likes is ideal for setting up friendships. Expect a raft of friendship requests in the next few days.

Along with Helene, myself, Pete and a few others I can't quite remember at the moment, Browncoat (Anthony - aka Tony) is one of the originals of this web site. And definitely, Pete is the most chronologically senior member! :)

I'm one that is willing to pay for a membership as long as the content is engaging and easy to look at. I was a Silver member of Nikonians, I left not because of the membership fees. I left because of the content. It was getting redundant, and there were some members that were becoming belligerent and acting like the paparazzi in Hollywood. And some of those were senior members.

This forum however... easy to navigate.. easy to read... and so far the posters have been helpful to others. Good Job!
