Are diffusers for pop-up flash worthwhile?

I agree with what you say photography is everything to everyone and if it gives you joy in life great ... but I only now shoot weddings ...lost interest in Speedo swimwear shoots and Dior, Building sites ,portraits and the like ...An I object to your spray and pray concept ..I am qualified with the Master Photographers associaton and British Institue of Professional Photographers by examination and my wife The Royal Photographic Society so I have more than half an idea of what I am doing ..Very few of the shot I take are a failure just duplicated as a safeguard againt blinks etc.....Like most things in 2013 life back up your claims with qualifications..thats what the insurance compaines want to see ... ...

. . . sigh . . . nowhere in my post do I even suggest that YOU are a "spray and pray" wedding photographe so please do not read more into my statement than what is there.

As far as your qualifications are concerned, you have made us all aware of them in every thread you post. Congratulations to you.

OHK I am trying to be nice to you because you are a moderator ...I can read between the lines in the Spray and pray comment......I have never mentioned the MPA BIPP or RPS before and I object to your comment that I say it in every post..total rubbish ..clearly you do not read the may posts I do on camera problems for new users...so tell us about the time you put your work forward for judgement by 3 judges in front of 400 members with binoculars in a theatre to find out if you reached the required standard ?? ...wait for it Thread closed ....

Actually, you are not. You have made your feelings about mods quite clear, and look for any excuse to start unpleasantness. What you claim to "read between the lines" is your problem. I also mentioned the other end of the spectrum, the classy "signature photos", yet you assumed that THAT did not apply to you, but the lower quality, "spray and pray" did.

The rest of your comment doesn't deserve the effort of a response.

There is no reason to close the thread . . . a legitimate question was asked and other members have posted excellent suggestions without being confrontational.

Quote ....I use 2-3 off camera speedlights ...I am sure you do but not at weddings and I only shoot weddings...and my wife blasting away off to my side oh joy ..... if you pi$$ about it must take hours and you get a bad reputation for being slow ...True if you use models/take the bride back the next week ..pay for flowers and suits etc but thats not my market. ..... done next please ......

I would like to make a suggestion... since you ONLY shoot weddings, maybe you could consider just replying and posting in sections about or questions pertaining to weddings.

I do believe that you know what you are doing regarding weddings but much of what you believe does not transfer well into other areas... The Orig Poster was asking about diffusing his pop up flash... If you stick to the wedding threads, you will have a lot less misunderstanding...

Thanks for your time..

It may not be every post... and it may be different letters... but most times when the language gets confrontational.. you resort to promoting "me, myself' & I" and how you have the credentials..

Again, if you do not like the mods, do not like how this place is run and get in to multiple confrontations, maybe it is time you found a wedding forum where you will be happier. It will be difficult, but I am sure there are many here that can help the beginners once you leave...

Oh, did I hear that horn honking again??? " tell us about the time you put your work forward for judgement by 3 judges in front of 400 members with binoculars in a theatre to find out if you reached the required standard" If that is not honking... I also think that statement is of no benefit to beginners...

I had a bit of an issue with Pistnbroke too but have to say I do feel he's being shoved towards the door unfairly.

Has he broken any of the forums rules?
If so the moderators will decide how to deal with it, if not I think the guy needs to be given a bit of space, just my opinion as a noob without knowing or needing to know previous history folks.

We HAVE been dealing with a lot of history, unfortunately, and that is part of a forum environment and part of our responsibility to promote a "pleasant" environment.

This thread is supposed to be about "diffusers for pop-up flashes" and not about members, so let's get back to that, please.

I would just like to say, "Bravo!" to the party responsible for pulling the trigger.

Or pushing the button, or clicking the button... However it's accomplished.

Helene, I fully agree with you... feel free to "remove" my 2 recent posts if unappropriate!

Yep! Cabin fever seems to definitely seems to be creeping in. None the less, I own one of these diffuser gizmos and would like more feedback as to whether or not they are worth using. I am not, I admit, much of a flasher, but when I am forced to use one I would like to know if it is really worthwhile or just another useless addition to my bag. So_____!

Thanks Rick, that seems to be useful info.. I shoot mostly flowers and find the pop-up flash blows them out. i will try the diffuser and see if that helps

Could you please note if you adjust the flash compensation any when using the diffuser? Thanks.

I actually picked up one of the generic "Gary Fong" type diffuser to try out because I shoot a lot of images of fish in aquariums... It definitely does help out with reducing the amount and gives a softer shadow. However like all things YMMV.
